Why does the central heating lose pressure all the time?

hi Marcella.
The cause of the boiler losing pressure can be due to wear and tear or an underlying fault on either the boiler or the central heatingsystem. In most cases, we find that the central heating has been checked for air in the radiators or work for example a radiator has been taken of the wall.

Why Is My Boiler Losing Pressure Q&A - Emergency Plumber

What would cause a boiler to lose pressure? The following are the two most common causes of lost pressure and how to spot them. If your central heating is losing water pressure that usually means it is losingwater. This could be due to a leak somewhere in the system, which is not only bad for your water pressure, in could end up causing damage to your home.9 Jun 2015Why Your Boiler is Losing Pressure ' DHS Heating and Plumbing, Bristolhttps://www.dhs-uk.com/why-your-boiler-is-losing-pressure/Search for: What would cause a boiler to lose pressure?

How to remove airlock from hot water system

At the boiler should be a purge setup. This consists of a valve to shut the zone off, and downstream of that valve is a drain ****. Attach a hose to the drain ****, and with the boiler running, close the valve and open the drain ****. (Turn the heat up on one zone at a time if you have multiple zones.) You should be able to notice when the air comes out of the hose by hearing it and the hose twitches and jumps when large amounts of air come out. After the air stops coming out, open the valve , close the drain, flip the bypass closed, and let the water circulate, then reapeat procedure. Do this until you hear or see no more air. You can run a long hose outside or you can use a bucket and a short hose. Using the bucket allows you to actually see the bubbles of air, but you will be dumping many buckets before you are done. Most boiler feed valves have a fast fill lever that bypasses the slow 12 psi that the boiler is normally fed at. Using this will speed up the purge considerably, but don't forget to flip the lever back down between, and after purging or the boiler relief valve will blow off and make a mess. Good luck!

Ravenheat 80/20 boiler. the boiler looses water pressure but only when working in central heating mode. Boiler holds pressure indefinitely if central heating is not used, hot water can be drawn without a...

Hi, your boilers pressure should be holding 1.5 bar with the relief set about 3. If the pressure is below this the flow switch will cause the boiler to stop as theirs not enough pressure to operate. Another thing, does your boiler have an auto fill system or do you need to plug a hose in to fill it? If its an auto fill system and you lose pressure you could have a leak.

Kind of need clarification on a couple things. First, what is the PSI operating pressure. Now, onto more questions. You say that when the boiler is operation, it has water coming out of the overflow correct? Then you say that a couple times a day you have to "top it out". Water coming out of the overflow means that either there is to much water in the vessel and it is leaking out when it gets hot due to expansion, or you have a leaking or faulty inlet water valve or sensor allowing cold water to come into they vessel, making it leak out the overflow, thereby reducing the capacity of your heating. You say you have to "top off" the system. How much are you adding and how are you adding it? A pressure vessel normally doesn't have a place to open up and add water because of the nature of the beast. How are you adding water?

My worcester bosch 24i junior pressure keeps dropping if i have heating off for an hour i have to top up boiler and reset also when i have heating on the pressure jumps right up to over 4.0bar

When water is heated it expands. To deal with this all boilers are fitted with a small expansion vessel which is like a reservoir which holds the excess water.

This expansion vessel is like a balloon in a metal pot. When the water goes in the metal pot the baloon squashes a bit to make room for the extra volume of water. When it cools the balloon pushes the water back into the heating system.

What has happened is your expansion vessel no longer works. When the water heats up there is nowhere for it to go so the pressure jumps up to 4 bar. The Worcester boiler lets high pressure water escape (most boiler allow this to go through the safety valve at say 3.5 bar).

When the water cools the pressure drops very low as the volume of water contracts.

The problem is your expansion vessel - normally a little red painted metal cylinder inside the boiler.

Gaggia Syncrony logic loses water pressure. If left unused for an hour or two it only dispenses half the water it should. After this it's ok until not used for a while. Any ideas?

Yes the machine should not be left on for that long, it only takes a few minutes to heat up. It does not have an auto refill if the boiler is low on water.
If it heats up the water in the boiler for over an hour, it is safe to assume, that the water might at some point turn to steam, when you use it for the first time, it flushes out all the steam, and fills the boiler with water.
