Forget the timing chain as the crankshaft will turn if the starter is running. If it is an automatic there is a possibility that the flex plate attached to the crankshaft and the torque converter has failed and is turning by itself. ( remove the inspection plate to check tis out). IT does happen that the pinion drive override clutch on the starter has failed which will require a new pinion gear assembly. have it checked out by an accredited auto electrician

My hyundai excel has a starting problem. It's a twin cam 98 model. Now I've replaced the coil the starter motor, the fuel relay was swapped over from a running one and still not cranking over. We have

Your starter motor needs to be replaced, also your ring gear could be damages as well. (ring gear is the part that has teeth on it and so does your starter drive they mesh together to start or turn the engine over so it can start)

The flywheel dose not stay on starter long enough to turn over motor. slips off and starter reves up and flywheel comes back and hits starter and makes a loud crack. had starter rebuilt cause a new one is...

the play in the shaft that your flywheel is causing your issue-you need to find the reason for that 1/2 inch wobble, although the most obvious would probably be a rear main bearing.or a bent (?) crankshaft...ask your rebuilder to double check the bendix gear operation on the starter, but it sounds like your problems are not the starter based on your description.

Starter has a hard time turning motor sometimes. It also will make a noise like the drive gear is slipping a tooth on the ring gear.Is the starter out of alignment or in need of a shim?

No, the starter motor is not out of alignment and a shim will not do any good. Keep in mind that I cannot hear what your starter is doing. But, if you say it sounds like it slipping a tooth or a making a grinding noise, it's probably the internal starter clutch. This part is also called an "over running clutch".

This part is replacable but it requires the disassembly of the starter. If you're mechanically inclined and have the time and tools, you can remove and repair your starter and save yourself a few bucks by replacing the clutch. However, if you are going to have to pay someone to do the job, you're better off to have the entire starter replaced. The extra time you would have to pay for to disassemble and reassemble the starter would negate any savings you would have otherwise realized.

Now, there is also the chance that there is damage to the ring gear on the outer clutch basket and the starter jackshaft. I have seen it on occasions. Both the jackshaft and the ring gear are replacable but the clutch assembly must be removed. I would recommend that your replace both if you find either part damaged. Once you find out which it is, repost and I'll tell you how to repair your bike.

Good Luck

Flexplate has 141 teeth, need replacement

There is too big a difference between the two ring gear teeth numbers. You could change the starter drive pinion to suit the new ring gear though.

You try and start it... it makes an initial start up sound..then all you hear is the starter..will not turn over

You need to replace the starter drive or the whole starter if you are not able to put the drive in yourself.another option is to take it to a starter repair shop and have them install a new drive. The drive is made up with a cog,a spline to travel up the armurature shaft with and a over running clutch, which allows it to get out of the ring gear after the engine starts.Over time the over running clutch will start "overrunning " on the way in to the ring gear as well as the way out and what you hear is the starter turning but the motor not,due to the slipping clutch in the drive.

Canon NP 1215 copier:

there is a drive gear, clutch or electromagnetic clutch that is either broken or dirty(slipping)

remove the back cover and manually move the image assembly back and forth on the rail
determine were the drive gear, cable or motor is connected to the scan/image assembley

See if you can observe the mechanism from the back or top of the machine by ressing th eprint button
(caution do not touch any electrical connections) you may have to trip any safety switches to get machine to come on with covers off

This drive assembly can be complicated if it is a series of cables if it is just an electromagnetic clutch with a gear it is relatively easy (may need ring clip remover or allen head (metric wrench) remove the assemby and clean it

If the assembly does not move after you have done the following the drive motor/clutch needs to be replaced( usually requires technician) YOu must be very mechanically inclined
