SOURCE: acer aspire one

Hi,
Its possible the computer is trying to boot from another device, as the computer starts up hit the F12 key, this should bring up boot options, select HDD if it's in the list.
If not hit F2 as it starts and enter the BIOS, look for the boot option and set the HDD as the first boot device, hit F10, save the changes and exit.
The computer will restart and hopefully boot into the operating system
Please post back if you need anymore assistance.

Regards.

SOURCE: this is regarding an acer

this can mean that your syste, is not detecting your hard drive. A reinstall of the operating system may be necessary, or a replacement hard drive is needed. Try to restart the notebook and tap F12 a few times as the system restarts until you reach the One Time Boot Menu, then if the hard drive islisted, select it and press Enter and see how it goes. Feel free to rate how helpful this may be to you.

You do not have your Hard drive being recognized. It either failed or you need to refer to the bios setup instructions of your motherboard.

Iam recieving thia message when i attempt to open a file with gimp 2.8 "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR1"

I had the same issue, due to opening a file from a SSD card previously, which was no longer in the PC. Clearing my recent documents history fixed it. HTH!

Error on startup when trying to open a file

I receive the same error, but only when opening or saving a file while a removable drive is attached to the computer (typically my camera's CF card). Naturally this is annoying when processing new photos. I don't have a solution to the underlying problem, but I do have a workaround for the annoying pop-up message. It involves using Windows Registry Editor, so use at your own risk.

1. Start Button -> Run
2. Type "regedit" without the quotes
3. Proceed through the following entries (double-click each name:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet ->
Control -> Windows
4. Locate "ErrorMode" and double-click
5. Change the entry for "Value Data" from 0 to 2
6. Change the entry for "Base" from Hexadecimal to Decimal
7. Click "OK"
8. Press F5 to refresh the Registry Editor
9. Close all windows and restart your computer

Again, this will stop the pop-up messages warning you that there's no disk, but it doesn't solve the underlying problem. If you're comfortable that there's nothing actually wrong with your computer (I am) this will at least make GIMP usable again. Thanks to jamuma on answers.microsoft.com for the original idea.

My problem is this message :"no system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready"

This usually means thehard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controlleris faulty. First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Next - to check if the harddrive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an USB mass storage device and you cannot open the various folders and fileson this drive, then this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.
