Do you have a 'synaptics based' touch pad?
try;
- re-calibrate your mouse properties in control panel
- reinstall the touch-pad driver

Hp laptop synaptics touchpad light comes on and shuts off pointer

Had this problem before, very annoying! On mine the idea was double tap to disable the track pad and then double tap again to activate it... In reality tapping rapidly in the area around the LED until the LED shut off seemed to work.

In short; double tap the LED to reactivate the track pad. If that doesn't work tap several times in quick succession until the LED turns off.

Good luck!

My hp 4520s probook's mouse pad got locked accidentally, and it's not unlocking by double tapping on the light button on the mouse pad. please help me with this asap.

First, try double tapping the light again. You may have just mis-tapped.

Next try restarting the laptop. Certain laptops re-enable the track pad on restart so long as a USB mouse isn't connected.

If that fails, navigate to the Mouse Settings on your PC and re-enable it there. If you have a USB mouse you can use that. If not, you can use the keyboard. Windows Key will launch the Start Menu, arrow keys can highlight options, Enter will click on them, Control+Tab and Control+Shift+Tab will switch tabs (in a window that has tabs).

In Windows XP and 7 (and probably Vista), Mouse Settings is located at Control Panel > Mouse > Settings.

Mouse won't respond to a double tap

Hi, if you can select anything by one click and only the double click is the problem you should check into your mouse properties, go to control panal\hardware\mouse, in there you can adjust the duration between the two clicks to activate the double click function, you can adjust then check in the box beside the adjustment slider to the best setup that works for you then apply the settings... Good Luck

Double tapping feature on my touhpad seems to have got disabled. Pl advise how I can enable it

Go to start, control panel and look for the mouse. Double click on the mouse and a window with several tabs will open to change the settings on the mouse, including single and double click,

I hope this information was helpful.

Gateway laptop running Vista suddenly developed an issue with the mouse pad.... double click doesn't respond. However the touch pad works to move the mouse

Hi there,
I have just had this problem with an Acer laptop running on Vista Home. When I double clicked on the actual pad itself rather than the bottons, it wasn't recognising it at all. Wouldn't scroll down or select a folder etc, just if I double clicked on the actual pad. Everything else worked OK.
I tried the solutions above but they didn't work.
Turns out it's the 'Tapping' function that needs to be enabled. Go to Start > Contol Panel > Hardware > Mouse > Device Settings > Then it says devices: and lists what pad hardware you have (mine is Synaptics Touchpad V7.2.
Under the box are 3 buttons Enable, Disable and Settings, presuming yours is enabled go to Settings > Tapping > Enable Tapping. Hey Presto! :-)

Pointer will not "tap"

This can be set to tap for you as it is a simple setting in the mouse control panel.

Go to your start menu and open Control panel, select classic view in the top left corner if there are less than 20 icons(pictures) in the menu. Now double click on the mouse icon. Click on the advanced tab. then select your synaptec device in the list and click the properties button below.

There are several options on the menu, one will say "Tap to Click"
Check the box beside it and then click OK on this window and the mouse window.

Close the control panel by tapping the pad and you're on your way.

I hope this helps Fixya,

Chris

How do I disable double-click on an HP Pavilion dv4 touchpad?

Hi there Dublin. I recently bought a HP laptop myself, and I believe I can help your situation, or at least I hope I can. Here's what you do: Access your Control Panel>Click Mouse>Click Device Settings>Click Settings> Click Tapping> Click Disable Tapping. That should do the trick. You are not disabling your touch-pad, just the double-clicking that is associated with it. Drove me nuts for about a day, 'til I figured it out..Hope it worked for your notebook.
