My Rebel dslr shows a small image on the lcd and says "incompatible jpeg file". When I upload the images to my computer, the images are incomplete and appear only as part of the image.

Thanks, but I was hoping there would be a solution other than camera repair. Does anyone think there's another cause for this problem?

    Thanks again,

Thanks so much for your response.  I can't follow it because all the little images, e.g., tab identification, appear in your message as .  Could you revise your message so I can see which buttons to push?

    Thanks again,

What you can try first in here is to reset the unit to default settings and check if that will correct the problem...

How to adjust the image recording quality settings on the EOS Digital Rebel.

The widely-used JPEG format is used for image-recording quality settings other than <>. images captured in the <> format must later be processed by a personal computer. For example, when [] is selected, the LCD panel will display <>.

      _
      1. Select [Quality].

      • Select the <> tab.

      • Press the <> keys to select [Quality], then press <>.

      2. Select the image-recording quality.

      • Press the <> keys to select the desired image-recording quality, then press <>.

      Image-recording Quality Settings

      Large
For A4-size (297 x 210 mm) prints. Records a large image size (approx. 6.30 megapixels).

      Medium
      For A5 to A4-size prints. Records a medium-size image (approx. 2.80 megapixels).

      Small
For A5-size (210 x 148 mm) or smaller prints. Records a small image size (approx. 1.60 megapixels).

      RAW
For A4-size (297 x 210 mm) and larger prints. Records a large image size (approx. 6.30 megapixels) without image quality degradation.

      • This format assumes that the image will be processed by a personal computer. Special knowledge is required, but you can use the bundled software to obtain the desired effect.

      • RAW images cannot be printed directly from the camera.

      • The <> (Fine) and <> (Normal) icons indicate the images compression rate. For better image quality, select <> for low compression. To save space so you can record more images, select higher compression <>.

      • Processing is the adjustment (such as the white balance and contrast) of the image from the RAW data.

Why can't I upload my photos from my finepix s1500 onto my mac? It opened the files in my iphoto but they showed up as blank boxes and "Error downloading images - iPhoto cannot import your photos...

Is this a new problem - that is, did it work in the past? Are you trying to import jpeg or raw?

First thing is to see if it is iphoto or the camera that has a problem.

Try uploading the images to another computer (try a PC - not that it is better, but PC is different). If the images can be seen & read there, the images are likely fine and iphoto may need an upgrade to read the format from the finepix s1500. Alternately, try copying the photos from your memory card (use a memory card reader) to your hard disk. See if another application can see the images (even use a word processor to import image), or e-mail the image to yourself and then use your web-browser to see the image.

If the camera images can't be read by multiple computers/multiple readers, then it may be that your memory card is corrupted.

Recently purchased a Canon 550D and when previewing an image on the camera, it appears fine. After switching it on and off, the image appears as a small version with "Can not display preview". ...

you maybe taking shots in raw which is fine but depending on what OS you have and computer hardware might mean your pc is struggling to open them. might want to check your photo resolution settings by pressing menu button and on the first list you should see the quality mode your using try taking shots in jpeg see if that helps.

if its already taking photos in jpeg then i highly recommend downloading picasa as it has an excellent photo viewer which you can enable as your default photo viewer. opens raw and jpeg photos no problem.

We have inserted sd-ms card onto our laptop to upload the photos onto FB.however the card when inserted back onto the camera, about 50 over images show, incompatible jpeg?how do we solve this issue?

The computer uses a small program to be able to upload pictures from the memory card once the pictures are safely on the computer hard drive hopefully you created a file folder for them then the memory card needs to be formatted in the camera. Formatting the memory card cleans the card and makes it compatible to the camera again. Every time you download images to the computer the memory needs formatting in the camera. Any new memory card needs formatting in the camera a card that has been formatted in the computer needs to be reformatted in the camera. Also please be aware that there is a protection lock on the side of the SD card and if placed in the incorrect orientation will actually lock the card from formatting or deleting files on the card. I'm going to include a diagram here to show you where this little switch need to be for the "unlock" position.
    tri3mast_60.jpg
Switch needs to be towards the top of the card in the direction of the gold contacts

    Importing Images

The CR2 suffix means that the picture was taken in the RAW file format, a proprietary format. This requires that the images be processed by a software conversion to be 'readable' by the computer. The EOS Utility software that came with the camera will work, as well as a number of third-party software packages. GOOGLE "raw file conversion Canon digital rebel" to see the options.

The other option is to take your photos in JPEG format (not RAW). Your computer can 'read' any JPEG format image.

Canon does not let me view some pictures on the LCD screen

My guess would be that the program you are using in your computer is not a Canon product. If this is the case, it is possible the program may have automatically adjusted the image, red eye correction or ? thus changing the image and making it impossible for the camera to read the file.

Uploads images to camera grayed out

Are you shooting in JPEG or RAW.

If Jpeg then you can just go into MY COMPUTER, the camera when connected should be recognised as a removable drive, just copy the images directly from your PC to the Card. If you are shooting in RAW then the chances are your digital frame will not recognise the file, convert to JPEG then transfer the same way. There may be a problem with the transfer process via the Canon Drivers, if you have a Card reader it is much easier to transfer the files that way.

Most DSLR cameras (like your Canon) don't have a live view - in other words, you can't "see" the image before you capture it. You must use the viewfinder.
