- Clean the CPU Fan with blower.
If while performing any step cpu goes to 100% then it seems problem can be due to hidden background running services, so i would suggest you to disable them with the help of Reginout, download it.

Compaq Presario 1700T overheats and shuts down

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

The CPU fan is being detected, but there is a problem with compatability or there is a fault in the fan it's self. Have you tried your original fan?

Why is my computer overheating only after 10 minutes

There are several possible causes - these are the 3 most common:

1. The fan is broken - can you hear it running?
2. You are running too much background software

Open "Task Manager" and select the "Performance" tab. If the CPU usage is constantly at a high level (80-100%) you may have too many background applications running. Next click on the "Performance" tab and look at the CPU column. See which processes are using lots of CPU power.

3. You have a virus/malware. Reboot in safe mode and run a virus scanner.

What will be the possible cause when my laptop compaq presario C700 is automatically turning off?

If the laptop shuts down and won't boot up until it has cooled down, then the CPU is overheating and goes into thermal shutdown. This is caused by either a faulty fan or the fan and heatsink assembly is clogged with dust.
If this is not fixed then eventually the CPU will fail completely.
Check the fan to see if it spins freely if not then replace the fan.
If the fan and heatsink is clogged with dust then remove the dust from the fan and heatsink fins.

Compaq presario sr2172nx shuts down unexpectedly. Very loud fan. How do I adjust those settings in the BIOS?

The fan is probably heat-sensitive, and your computer is probably overheating, despite having the fan spinning at 100%.

Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the side-panel.
Using a can of compressed-air, give your motherboard & CPU & power-supply a "blow-job", to remove all the dust that has accumulated, and is acting like a blanket that is trapping the heat.

When your computer is running at a lower temperature, you won't need to adjust the BIOS-settings.

Have you run any anti-virus programs? Inexplicably high CPU usage is a tell-tale sign of virus infection.
Computers do have fans in them in order to coll the CPU. If you don't have any viruses, it could indicate that your CPU is frequently overheating. You could need to replace it, or possibly

I have a Compaq Presario SR5233WM PC. My problem is the tower over heats and does an auto shut down. Has anyone else seen this before?

This happens when the CPU overheats and shuts down (ie thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If the problem is not rectified, eventually the CPU will fail.
The problem is caused by a faulty CPU fan and or the fan and heat sink assembly is clogged with dust. The switch mode power supply fan may also be faulty or clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan, if it does not spin freely then replace it. Also loosen and vacuum the dust off the heat sink.
Check the switch mode power supply fan, if it is faulty replace the fan or better still replace the power supply.

My compaq presario 4000 shuts itself off every so often. it sounds like the fans are cutting in then it shuts down

There are known viruses that will also shutdown a computer. You can rule-out a virus problem first perhaps with Mcafee's free online virus scan here: http://us.mcafee.com/root/campaign.asp?cid=45694
About the fans, you should definitely check them. If the main CPU's fan is clodded or otherwise failing, then temperature is likely skyrocketting until it shuts down. You could download a CPU temperature program as well. If you have the knowledge and this is a desktop, try opening the lid and taking a look at the fans
