Question about Linksys EtherFast BEFSR41 Broadband Router 4 x 10/100Base-TX LAN 1 x 10Base-T WAN Broadband Router (BEFSR41FT)

1 Answer

The area connections with internet were lost

My Linksys BEFSR41 worked well for a few years. However, after my computers were left on the ?standby? for an hour, their area connections with the internet were lost. I connected and disconnected the router, modem and my computers several times, but I could not restore these connections. At the same time, I have no connection problems with the internet working without the router. I am wondering if my router is gone and should be replaced or it can be repaired. Thank you very much in advance.

Try updating its firmware, if its not yet making any improvements, consider buying a new one.

I have a WRT54G router and want to daisy chain a Linksys BEFSR41 switch off it, but I seem to be doing it wrong...

Not sure if you just want to expand the amont of computer you can connect to it or the wireless range but I would setup the BEFSR41:
  • Disable DHCP
  • Set an address out of the DHCP scope of the WRT54G
  • Connect them LAN to LAN if not use xover to connect them

Your provider probably sent you either a cable modem or adsl modem. If you connect the single port on the modem to the WAN or Internet Port on the Linksys and then connect the computers to any of the 4 ports that are grouped together, it should work.
Mac or PC, it makes no difference and drivers are not needed.
Unless this is a new router or it is one that you personally configured, I recommend resetting it back to factory default by holding down the little red button for 30 seconds, this eliminates any configuration issues that someone else may have introduced.

Setup and confifuration of my linksys befsr41 ver 2 router

Since you did not include your exact model number and type of internet provider I cannot give you more specific instructions. Although you can refer to the links below on how to set it up. If you require further assistance just reply to this and give me the model number of your ISP and the model of your router. Reset the modem while the router is plugged into it. Do this by disconnecting the power to the modem and then reconnecting.

2 0f 4 ports do not work

It sounds as though the ports on the cable/dsl router as bad. There really isn't anything you can do. It just happens. The typical shelf life of those routers is about 3-4 years. You could go out and buy another one or if you just need more ports go out and buy a little 5 port switch and plug it into one of the working ports and your comptuers into the 5 port switch.
