Star is a comm'l manufacturer. If you are using it in a comm'l setting (ie. restaurant), then it may be set for the wrong gas type (it may be set for natural while you are providing propane). Is it lava rock or radiant? If your regulator is for the correct gas type and the broiler is for the correct gas type, call your gas servicman, he could, possibly, drill out the orifices, providing more gas to the burners, thus making them hotter (DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS YOURSELF!). The economy Star broilers have never been real hot (I am a comm'l restaurant equipment dealer) but your gas man could make it more acceptable. Call your professional, licensed gas serviceman to make things a bit better.

Recently replaced all 5 burner tubes and now when I light the grill it doesn't get hot enough - stays around 250 degrees.

Gerald, when you turned the gas tank valve back On, after replacing the burner, the OPD Valve in the grill tank partially locked up the grills gas regulator. To solve this problem, follow the steps below:

1. Turn the gas valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes.

2. Reconnect the hose to the tank and open the tank valve VERY, VERY, SLOWLY (Slow motion,
slow).

3. Once the valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the grill first and turn it to HIGH. Does
the flame height look correct for the highest setting? If so, light the remaining burners the same
way. Now, to all the flame heights look normal for the highest setting. if so, you solved the
problem.

4. Close the hood/lid of the grill and allow it to preheat for at least 15 minutes. The temperature
reading (if your grill thermometer is correct) should between 400 & 450 degrees F, depending on
outside air temperature. Which is hot enough to sear a steak.

If none of the above corrected the problem. You will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly, because the regulator is partially locked up. You can pickup one at any home center or hardware store that sell gas grills and accessories for about $30.00. Take your old one with you for comparison purposes.

Hope this helped you to troubleshot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling!!

Gas grill caught fire

The anwer is not the one you want before Labor day cook-outs. Since the unit is under recall, go the manufacture's site, or any site specified in the recall notices, and follow the directions, to get replacement parts for all damaged parts from the fire, as well as the original defective parts. Hopefully you can take the unit in for exchange for a fully assembled one. Be polite but firm in wanting the units assembled gratis.

Converting to gas

If it does not get hot enough when using natural gas then the small propane orfices must be sized larger for the equivalent BTU rating of propane. Conversion tables are online via Google
