Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Yesterday I heard a loud pop from inside the stove. Frigidaire smooth top professional series just about 5 years old. Looked inside and my parchment paper had caught on fire which had never happned before in the last 5 years. Today the stove was flashing like it had lost power and the convection does not work anymore. Regular bake appears to be ok. Any thoughts on what might be going on? Regards, Shawn

I was wondering that too. Both top and bottom elements seem to be working. The convection fan however does not turn on which is I'm concerned about. Any further thoughts?

    Any ideas are much appreciated.

Is this an oven or the cook top?

A blown oven element is possible. You may still be able to bake but the oven will seem to take forever to warm up. An easy check would be to crank the heat up full bore and put your hand near the top then the bottom. You should feel more intense heat the nearer you get to a working element.

Most ovens have an axial fan that blows hot air across the top of the range and out the front (in some cases). This fan is triggered by the thermostat, and is the fan you hear when the oven tries to cool down. If it's not working, then it needs replaced. They are a fan and a universal motor, if you can access the area at the back of oven where this fan lives you may find signs of what made that loud pop you hear. You should also be able to read out any important information to help you find a replacement motor or to help your local appliance serviceperson find a replacement motor.

My frigidaire stove made a loud pop while oven was on and then lost power....stove top elements working stove clock not working tested fuse, and changed it still not working

Thank you for your post, friend!

I understand that your Frigidaire range made a loud pop while in operation and lost power. I noticed you stated that the stove top is working and you have changed out the control board but the oven is not working. It could be a possibility that your terminal block or wiring harness has shorted. I would recommend contacting a professional technician to come out and perform a diagnosis and repair on your range. This will help to avoid any unnecessary part purchases. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

While preheating my electric frigidaire smooth top oven, we heard a loud pop and saw a flash. The breaker had tripped. After resetting it, the clock and digital features still work, and so does the st

I appreciate your inquiry, Stephanie Givan!

From what you are describing it sounds like a possible short with your breaker box or issue with your terminal block within your Frigidaire range. I would recommend reaching out to a professional technician for a proper diagnosis to be completed. The technician will have the correct tools to check for any electrical issues within the range to make sure the correct component is being replaced. This will help avoid any unnecessary part purchases. -Matt

Loud pop from Range, stove top still works

The pop was a shorted wire.
The short drew sudden over-amp at breaker.
Amps = heat.
Breaker senses heat and trips before wire to oven is damaged, and before the arcing short can cause a fire.
Was the short at the element?
I don't know, but sounds like the circuit board was damaged.
Of course they are putting electronics inside all appliances today instead of old mechanical dial, because it's cheaper or so much prettier... but new appliances more vulnerable to surge, and other electrical failures. Which is true for all 240V appliances not protected by whole house surge protector.
To test element.
Remove element.
Use a continuity tester across the element connections.
If there is continuity, then the element is probably functional.
Use a multimeter across same element, set multimeter to read ohms.
240 Volt, 3500 watt element should be about 16 ohms.
4500 watt about 12-13 ohms
Volts squared divided by watts = ohms
57,600 divided by 4500 watt = 12.8 ohms

I would guess that the short fried the circuit board, but there is a also a shorted wire somewhere that is still bare and dangerous while power is ON and you are touching oven or stove, unless 240V breaker is GFCI or arc fault, which probably not. Especially dangerous if you are moving stuff around trying to find problem while power is ON.

Stove cutoff after loud popping sound

The element burnt in to and arced which is the loud noice you heard red flash of light. It probably tripped the breaker at the electrical panel. Don't turn it back on until someone checks the element and replaces it.

Can't find the model number on Frigidaire dishwasher

The nomenclature should be located on the left side on the inside of the tub right by the front when you open the door. It is most likely an fdb series example fdb1050. however the drain hose pn 154606701 is the factory replacement for most frigidaire dishwashers ten years or less.

Cleaning of stove top

I assume you are talking about a glass smooth top stove. Use any of the liquid polishing type cleaners made for this use. Regular use leaves a build up that makes it easier to clean without streaking.
