Router wont work with new modem

Comcast came out today to replace my modem because they determined that was the problem with me having lost my internet connection. Now, I can only connect directly to the modem. If I try to connect to the router and then run the eternet cable to the computer...nothing.

I have not. Mostly because I don't know how to. Would you mind walking me through it like I am a first grader?

Have you flashed the latest firmware to the router?

Flashing firmware is not hard, but, you follow the instructions exactly or the router will be trash. I would go to the website of whoever makes the router and follow their instructions after you find out if a newer version is available. You will probably have to go to a special website just for the router config. All this info. should be on the manufacturers website. Sometimes the hardware is just not compatible. Have you contacted Comcast to ask if your router will work with their modem?

Do i need a modem? if so which are compatible?

When you speak to Comcast you should see if they are providing you with a wireless modem/router that will be everything you need.

If so, you will not need the Belkin router as Comcast will supply you with the hardware you need. If they only give you a modem, your Belken wireless router should work fine with the Comcast modem.

Hope that helps!

first you need to make sure that the new modem is provisioned (added to your account from comcast). you can do this by connecting your router to the coax cable and plugging it in (like the old modem was) then call comcast and ask them to provision the new modem (they will want you to return the old modem a local office to avoid rental fees on it). once the modem is provisioned.
1. unplug the power to the modem and router2. connect the router and modem the way you had it with your old modem (Ethernet/cat5 connects from port on modem to interent/WAN port on router)3. pug both router and modem back in
all should work now as long as there are no funky (meaning non-default) settings on your router. so, long answer to say, "no, there should be no special settings that are different for your mac"

Turn the router off.
Disconnect the electrical power from the router.

Reconnect the electrical power.
Turn the router on.

It should immediately "reboot" itself, and "talk" to your Comcast modem, and connect to the Internet.

How can I my up my comcast netgear modems wireless to work? when I try my PS3 it detects a sginal but wont obtain an IP address. The same with my lap top.

You have to change the ipddress on the router different then the modem. For example 192.168.9.1 and leave the modems ip alone. Plug the cable into the Lan port of the router. Go to the setup screen on the router and tell give your username and password that
Comcast gives you. You will need comcast gateway address and dns numbers. There will be a connect button on the router and tell it connect it to the modem. You are trying to let the router receive that only ip address.

Trouble connecting netgear wireless router to rca modem DCM425

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.
Good Luck

Netgear wgt624 just stopped connecting to internet

I encountered the same problem, with the same modem and also Comcast, and here's what wound up working for me, after time spent with a nice guy on the Netgear customer support line:

1. Log into router: http://192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.1.1) - user: admin / password: password

2. Under Maintenance, click Router Status. If IP Address is listed as 0.0.0.0, there's your problem-- router isn't getting address from modem.

3. At bottom of Basic Settings, under Router MAC Address, change selection from Use Default Address to Use Computer MAC Address.

4. Click Apply.

5. Click Router Status again-- non-blank IP address should now be listed.

6. Basic Settings will now show MAC address under Use This MAC Address. See if you can get online now. I could, and I hope you can, too!
