SOURCE: bushnell 400 rangefinder won't show yardage stuck on 888
If the unit is stuck on 1888 the circuit board inside has lost its programming. Sounds like its about 10+ years old. Bushnell doesn't work on them anymore. If you use it for hunting I would suggest the Scout 1000 with ARC compensation, if you use it for golf look at the Medalist. You can see them both at bushnell.com
The hunting rangefinder will run about 250 bucks
The golf rangefinder will run about 220 bucks.
Both use advanced target locking systems.

This sounds like it's a program error, which means the microprocessor or sending/detecting unit may be bad. I read up on this model, and noone reported this problem, so it must be something tricky and unusual. I would contact Bushnell to see what they say. Not sure if your warranty is still any good, but use it if you can. It's possible that the internal batter contacts on the unit are slightly oxidized, so clean them with a qtip and isopropyl alcohol.
