Question about Canon EOS 40D Digital Camera

Canon 40d images appear to be too green

I was out today shooting some images around town with a friend and when comparing what we had done my images all seemed to be way too green. I was shooting at night & outdoors in manual mode with W/B on auto.
We took some test shots indoors and I had the same problem. My friend uses a 450d & I was using a 40d with a 17-85 kit lens, I had the same problem with my 70-200is f2.8 lens.
I tried resetting the camera to its original settings and still had the same issue. After some tinkering with the settings I managed to get a more natural color balance, however I can only achieve this by adjusting the in the menu "W/B Shift/BKT" to B9,M9.
I've never had this issue before and the camera has only done about 3000 clicks and is about a year old.
Not sure what to do, is there a fix for this problem or a way of calibrating the colors?

This is actually a white balance issue.

Not to be a wise guy, but these solutions are on pages 63-71 in the owners manual. If you don't have it, get it here:

http://canon.links.googlepages.com/Canon-EOS-40D-Manual.pdf

On P 70 you'll see the White Balance Correction instructions, I'd start there if it's a global problem. But note that there are other ways to hande individual lighting situations: Custom white balance is very easy and popular, p68. Also check out the picture styles on p63 and note you can create custom styles in that menu, p65-66.

Hope this helps.

Images aren't very sharp

that is a good lense if its the one for the camera heres the thing clarity in a picture come from the exposure , the time the light is hitting the film or in digital the sensor . try cutting down the time speed up the exposure or change the f stop.
if it happens in all the modes it is a focus problem try shooting some test shots in controled light say 5 feet from a person inside and outside and see what happenes and consult the lab tech they can usualy show you on your camera how to set it up..
good luck

Canon eos 40d Soft image on playback screen

I think this might be a firmware issue.www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=17779#DownloadDetailAct
Here is a link to Canon's website for your 40D there you will find the latest firmware version for your camera. Version 2.0.0 which includes 1.0.8 . In 1.0.8 item #3 in the list of changes it states repairs a phenomenon where reviewed images appear unnatural.

Colour representation on Eos 40d

Have you checked your white balance? Having an improper white balance is one of the most common color problems with digital cameras.
If true color is what you're after, then you need to tell the camera what true white is, too. Try either shooting a grey card, or using an expodisc. For each lighting situation, you properly expose a shot of the grey card, or a blank frame using the expodisc, and then you set your camera to use that image as the white balance image. Now, your camera will see what you see a whole lot better. Keep in mind that the auto white balance is just a best approximation of what the camera thinks it sees. However, in many situations, there is not only one light source. There are reflected light sources, diffused light sources, and direct light sources all over the place — all of them different color temperatures and intensities. The grey card and expo disc help take these all into account. And while it may seem like a lot of trouble to set the white balance all the time, I think it will be well worth it when you (and everyone) else is amazed at the true colors you are capturing.
Happy shooting!

Canon 40D i do not know how to turn on my lcd screen so i can see through it while shooting my image, is it possible?

Hi,
Prepare to Live view shooting:
1. Set the lens focus mode (on the side of the lens) switch to <MF>
2. Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode
3. In menu under the settings tab, select Live View function settings and then press <SET>
4. Turn with quick control dial to select Live View shoot and press <SET>
5. Turn with the control dial to select Enable and press <SET>

With the camera ready to shoot, press <SET> - image will appear on the screen in real-time

I hope this answered your question
