Leave the mattress pad out, and you should be able to see the dust ruffle. The dust ruffle goes under the mattress pad and hangs like a skirt on the bottom of the bassinet. Pick up the dust ruffle and untie any ribbons that might be used to anchor it on the sides or bottom area. Depending on the bedding set you bought or are using with the bassinett, the piece that goes around the hood area might have elastic to keep it snug, or if you are using the default that came the model that is sold in California, US - its not really removeable without a lot of trouble and other problems - (I would suggest leaving it on unless its REALLY soiled).

Are you sure you lost the manual? It took us all day to discover it was attached to the crib base under the mattress. We have a different simplicity crib but it needs either rails or you buy a full-size bed frame from a mattress store and attach it with the headboard adaptor plates and screws they gave you.

It says in the description that it is 4-in-1 sleep system. It can be converted into a traditional bed, a day bed and a full-sized bed. It does need a full size mattress once you convert it.

Just the mattress should be fine since it already has a "bed frame". But since a lot of people have trouble converting cribs into day beds or full-size beds, you are probably better off getting a box spring for that. Also, find out if you have the parts that you need. There have been a lot of recalled Simplicity cribs and the parts for those recalled items are no longer available.

BTW, this model was NOT on the recall list and Simplicity is no longer.
