How do i change angle grinder blade

Some units have a button you push to lock the shaft. Then you turn the lock nut with the spanner. If yours will not lock the shaft wrap a rag around the blade so you can hold it tight and not hurt your hand and turn the lock nut. It also may have a left hand thread so you could be tightening a tight nut.

Can I remove rust from drum with a scrubbie for temporary fix?

I'd use the brush to clean the spots down to bare metal then use something like Rust-Oleum appliance touch up paint (multiple coats) to cover the problem areas.

The Rust-Oleum costs about $4.00 .

In order to get access to the tub, see the following:

In order to get the agitators out, you need to remove the "Spanner Nut" and "Drive Block".

Many instructions call for a special spanner wrench to remove the nut. However,

You don't need a special spanner wrench. (About $20 retail)

I've used a short 10" pipe wrench (About $9 also good for cracking walnuts) hooked around one of the tabs on the spanner nut and tapped the handle with a hammer to loosen it.

Also, don't directly hit the drive block with a hammer (it's soft metal). Put a short piece of wood under the drive block and tap it up with a hammer.

You can then lift the drum out and more easily work on it.

INNER TUB REMOBAL: Tryng to get to the drum

A number of the diagnostics and repair procedures for these washers require you to remove the agitator(s).

In order to get the agitators out, you need to remove the "Spanner Nut" and "Drive Block".

Also see the Whirlpool Service manual for these washers with diagrams of the springs.

The tub is attached to the triangular support from below with a spring and two screws.

Once the screws and springs are removed, you should be able to lift the tub up.

Hello! my tub seems to be very loose and makes loud noise when spin cycle turns on....what might that be?

you will need to remove your agitator. There should be a bolt on the top center of the agitator. you will need to remove the top of agitator or the cap to get to this bolt. once you loosen this bolt the hole agitator shold pull straight up.

Now you should see the long shaft in the center. Follow that shaft from the top down to the area where the shaft disappers and ther is a big round nut with 4 notches spaced evenly. This is call the spanner nut and you should use a spanner rench to tighten it with a small sleg or hammer ( a couple of good wacks should do. ) I know you probably do not have this tool, but at least you can verify that this is your problem. your spanner nut may be loose. this nut holds your inner tub down to the block. here is the break down

At the end of each spin cycle, the washer makes a very loud sound like thunder that is audible throughout the whole house. What could this be?

That sounds like a bad drive block. I think the part # is 389140. Double check that though. It's a cheap part, and not that hard to replace. However, you will need a Whirlpool spanner wrench. I won't go into each detail of breakdown unless you want me too, just let me know with a re-post. But basically, once the cabinet is removed, pop off the tub ring, remove the agitator, remove the spanner nut with aforementioned spanner wrench, and slide basket up off the gearcase shaft. The drive block may stay on the gearcase, or it may stick in the basket center. The drive block slides onto the gearcase shaft, (only goes on one way, due to slots) the basket slides onto the drive block, and the spanner nut is then tightened onto the drive block. The rumbling noise occurs when the block is worn in such a way that when stopping, the block (and basket) slides up and off the metal tabs on the gearcase. If that sounds too involved, call Sears...they have a pricing thing right now where the labor is a max of $129. So with the part it would only be about 150. Otherwise, just take it slow. Hope that helps!

Need to remove the inner drum to try to patch a hole in the outer drum from the inside. Kenmore top load , how to remove the inner drum?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

See the following illustrated description of how to remove the drum.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137&osCsid=c1fdfdd9f5c92acf030438f5108905f5

You don't need a special spanner wrench to remove the spanner nut. I've found that a 10: pipe wrench hooked over one of the tabs on the spanner nut and using a hammer to tap the handle works well.

Don't use a hammer directly on the drive block. Use a short piece of wood under the drive block and tap it with a hammer to remove the block.

When replacing the block make sure to align the tabs on the drive tube with the slots in the drive block before tightening the spanner nut.

How do i remove the drum from a whirlpool top loading washing machine? The agitator is out.

Please see the following Whirlpool installation and maintenance manual for Top Load / direct drive washers.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

You have to remove the agitators and the drive block.

The drive block is held on by a spanner nut. Whirlpool and others sell a special spanner wrench but I found that using a short (10") pipe wrench hooked onto one of the spanner nut tabs and giving the wrench a short smack with a hammer will do the trick.

Then using a short block of wood under the drive block carefully tap it up to remove it.

Then un-snap the clips on the Tub Ring and lift it out of the way.

The drum will pull up and out.
