When you first boot go into the bios by pressing F2 and change to boot sequence to boot off of the cd-rom. Your going to need the Dell Password override cd. Find that and stick it in the drive. Boot up the system and as soon as it says press any key to continue, press any key and it should boot up into a dell windows restore screen and it will ask you if you want to restore the laptop, choose yes and go thru the prompts and it should allow you to restore the laptop to factory defaults.

If you have problems let me know and we can try another way.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I have a dell involve laptop while i was trying to set back to factory specks i got locked out and it wont let me access any thing with out my administrator password and i don't no it what can i do to save...

No laptop is trashed when a password is lost. It just takes a little time to find out how to get into the system. I'll assume it is running XP Home that was originally installed on it from the specs I saw when researching. I'll also assume the password is not the one necessary to get into the BIOS CMOS setup- that one can normally be cleared by removing the CMOS battery and letting it set for a few hours or longer so the information is lost. The OS password can be cleared by making a bootable disk for that purpose. I have a Unix CD program that I made from information I downloaded from the Internet. You can do the same if you have access to a CD burner on another computer, say a friend's or one at work. I can get you the program's name if that's the route you want to take.

I want to restore my laptop dell 1501 inspiron it has vista home basic back to factory setting i have tried the f8 and the ctrl +f11 and they dont work can you help i dont have a restore disc

Turn Off the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10 key,ie: Alt+F10, it will open the recovery console ,select full factory restore and follow on screen instruction. (Note:this will erase all datas on the computer)

or
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

Hope this helps

My Dell laptop Recovery(D) is almost full. 418 MB free of 9.99 GB. It includes a file "MedicalD.bin" which I question.

Delete the Media.Bin file and check whether that gets the free space for u...the same file will not show u huge file size(infact its small),but causes this problem..Otherwise disable the System restore option and enable it...this will help in deleting the restore points which would actually occupy a lot of space and thats the reason why the D drive is FULL now...To disable and enable the system restore ..follow this link and follow the same steps to ENable it back again.

I have exactly the same problem :-(((

On this link: "http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1521&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en&TabIndex=" try to check of what OS that you are using, if it is Windows XP or Windows Vista. If you are using Windows Vista and still not compatible things happen that you need to backup all of your important files and have to do a DELL PC RESTORE. Restoring your computer settings from factory. Everything on it will be gone. So again, make sure to backup the files. But in a case still nothing happens, then have to call Dell technical support for assistance. There would be a scenario that your audio device is working badly that needs to be replace which is the motherboard. Thank you.

Reset to factory settings

If the system has the original Dell image, then just after the Dell Bios splash screen should be a black screen with w blue bar at the top with www.dell.com at the top.

At that screen press CTRL + F11 to initiate the PC Restore program.

Trying to restore Dell Inspiron 1501 to factory settings.

don't hit ctrl, f11 instead hit F8 and then go into Dell Factory Image Restore, that will wipe, format and reinstall all the factory software that's stored on the Recovery Drive (usually the D: drive) good luck.

My dell computer with Vista won't restart

Try the Vista startup repair option by pressing F8 before windows loads. If this doesn't work you can attempt to restore the factory image from the same menu (you will loose all data).
