Usually they are permanently lubricated since they are hermetic motors.

How do i operate it?

Go to the Mastercool web site:
http://www.mastercool.com/pages/vacuum_pumps.html
Pick out your model number and then click on "instructions" to download a manual. The most important thing is to change the oil frequently. This unit is used in HVAC to draw a vacuum on an evacuated AC system after repairs were made to insure it is free of any condensables.

High speed does not work but low speed does. Is there an easy fix, or will this require a motor replacement to get both speeds working again? The cooler is a Mastercool model MC64C

If your motor only works on low speed and not on high speed first check to see if you have the proper voltage to high speed. Check with a voltmeter or multimeter, check from common on the motor to high speed on the motor at the switch. If you have the proper voltage then you have an open winding on high speed and the motor needs replaced. If you don’t have the proper voltage or any volts, then the switch is bad and needs replaced. This also will be the same if, medium speed won’t work and low speed does.

Master Cool shakes, is noisy like metal hitting metal.

probably should not be loose, there may be a set screw or band clamp, the motors are generally permanently lubed and do not require oil or maintenance.

Cooking oil in cooler motor?

Not a good move; cooking oils leave a sticky residue as they evaporate; you can try this yourself in a skillet over low heat (or in the oven) for an extended time, motor oil does not. Heat generated by bearings can accelerate this and eventually cause the shaft to seize.

Summer

If it was not drained for winter, do so and then remove all scale from the pan, pump inlet screen, etc. Replace the pads if they are scaled up and remove any scale from the louvered panels. WITH THE POWER OFF, check the belt for cracking and check to drive motor and blower wheel bearings for smooth operation, oil bearings with oil ports. With clean water in the sump, a good drive belt, clean pump screen and clean pads, the unit is ready to power up and run test the float action/shut-off, water distribution through the arms, belt tension (just enough to prevent slipping). These units work best when they can fully evaporate the water, so let the air flow out as fast as it come into the cooled space to maximize the evaporative effect. Also note, these unit must be level to work properly.
