I switched of auto-sync, and since then my computer does not know the i-pod is connected to it. I can't find "my computer" anywhere either. It's not on my desktop or next to anything... HELP!! My ipod is almost brandnew, bought from a proper store, and a diagnostic test in i-tunes confirms that my computer does not know it's there... any ideas?? The cable seems fine, it's charged... it does everything except show up in i-tunes!!

ITunes is an criminal act of Apple! Uninstall Itunes!!! You can also use Winamp (free player) to sync your Ipod. It works very well - faster and without any problems.

Hope I could help you.

Make sure the connection is right. Restart the computer with the ipod connected. make sure it's properly charged.

Keep me posted.

I've had that problem b-4. when you plug in the i-pod make sure it's registering in "my computer" at least. if it does then when you get into i-tunes go to file then export library and chose the i-pod port shown in "my computer. it will say it already exists but if you have all the same music overwrite it anyway. then check every song on your i-pod because you have a corrupted file.

and yes you do need i-tunes to add songs onto your i-pod but you can download it free at

How do I delete songs

More info please. Without it I offer this.

Have your iTunes on your computer. Open iTunes and update your music. i.e. delete the songs you wish to delete. Then set your iTunes to sync to your iPod (make sure you don't have it set to sync the other way). With iTunes open, plug your iPod into a USB port and the computer should sync back to the iPod and mirror your iTunes files.

Ipod will not sync

You want to be sure that the computer is recognizing the iPod. Apart from iTunes, when you plug in the iPod to the USB port, it should show up in My Computer as a device. If it does not, try a different cable or different USB port on the computer. Until the iPod is "seen" in Windows, it will not be able to communicate with iTunes.
Hope this helps

Starting up with anew ipod touch

To use iPod touch, you need:
  1. A Mac or a PC with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems:
  • Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later
  • Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later, Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate edition.
  • iTunes 7.6 or later, available at
  • iTunes Store account (to purchase music over Wi-Fi)
  • An Internet connection
Before you can use any of the iPod touch features, you must use iTunes to set up iPod touch. You can also register iPod touch and create an iTunes Store account.
  1. Download and install the latest version of iTunes from
  2. Connect iPod touch to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac or PC using the included cable. The USB port on most keyboards doesn’t provide enough power. Unless your keyboard has a high-powered USB 2.0 port, you must connect iPod touch to a USB 2.0 port on
    your computer
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes to set up iPod touch and sync your music, video, photos, and other content. Your computer must be connected to the Internet. By default, iTunes automatically syncs all songs and videos in your iTunes library to
iPod touch. If you have more content in your library than will fit on iPod touch, iTunes alerts you that it can’t sync your content. You’ll need to use iTunes to select some of your songs, videos, and other content to sync.
When you get back to France, you'll need sync it with your PC. Download the latest version of iTunes then sync your iPod with your computer.

Apple Ipod isnt recognized on computer

You can only sync one ipod with one computer so if you put music on it already it will only work with the original computer you synced it with. Same with ANY ipod.

HI. I got a new ipod touch. At first it would show up as a camera when I plugged it in the usb port......and would not sync with itunes. I downloaded new version of itunes and everything synced fine. Now...

Your iPod touch should not appear in my computer. Does it appear in iTunes? If so, then that is all that you need to sync. If iTunes does not open automatically, click on it to open it. you should see your iPod there. Hope that that helps.
