I need to set the tax rate on the sharp er a170 sharp cash register

I assume you mean ER-A170. There is no simple half reset for this model since they don't have lock up problems normally. Press clear then try a no sale function.

After programming the tax you also have to link the taxable PLUs or department to tax by using the digit one and 0 for the non taxable

Follow the instructions beginning on page 93 of this manual.

The two main programs to edit are the tax rate program and the department program. have a look at these tables in the manual and set your tax.

The amount that goes in the blank is the minimal amount that the tax can be applied. Put the number 1 in the blank to indicate all sales over $.01 will be taxed. Also, 8375 won't work. It's looking for a 5 digit number so if you're trying to indicate a 8 3/8% tax rate, it should be entered 83750. Post back if you have any questions.
