Vertical fold over top of screen, replaced vertical output, 220ohm 2 watt by vertical yoke return and most capacitors including all 3300uf,except 22uf/250v and 100uf/25v did not have, not sure if there is a bad resistor somewhere or other capacitor around jungle ic????

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

A black line (about 2 inches wide) appears at the top of the screen with this amount of the picture looking like it is folded down translucently over the remaining picture. What's up?

Hello
Your TV has vertical fold problem. Just check all the electrolytic capacitors. On checking, most of them may look good. But on circuit, when energised, will show problems. So it is best to replace all of them once and check. Please check the electrolytic capacitor connected to the vertical power supply [usually comes from the secondary supply section of the Line Output Transformer], first, and replce it. It may be a 1500Mfd or 2200mfd. Check it first by replacing a new one. In most foldover cases, this service will solve the problem. gopakumarg43@ymail.com

Vertical lines in the picture

Hello, This require you opening the television and having an ohmmeter to work with. This is a vertical deflection problem - possibly a bad capacitor, bad connection, flyback/pumpup diode, or other component.
If the symptoms change - particularly if they become less severe - as the set warms up, a dried up electrolytic capacitor is most likely. If they get worse, it could be a bad semiconductor. Freeze spray or a heat gun may be useful in identifying the defective component.
It is often easiest to substitute a good capacitor for each electrolytic in the vertical output circuit. Look for bad connections (particularly to the deflection yoke), then consider replacing the vertical output IC or transistor(s).
A defective deflection yoke is also possible or in rare cases, a bad yoke damping resistor (e.g., 500 ohms, may be mounted on the yoke assembly itself).
Where there is a wide running vertically on the screen the likely causes could be a missing power supply voltage, defective vertical output IC, or a component associated with it is likely bad. A bad connection or blown fusable resistor may be the cause of a missing power supply voltage.
The following are NOT possible: CRT, flyback (except possibly where it's the source for a missing voltage but this is more likely just a bad solder connection at a flyback pin), tuner (except for the famous RCA/GE/Proscan or Sony models where the controller is at fault - see the sections on these specific brands). I am just trying to think of really expensive parts that cannot possibly be at fault :-).
Note that some movies or laser karaoke discs are recorded in 'letterbox' format which at first glance looks like a squashed vertical problem. However, the picture aspect ratio will be correct and turning up the brightness will reveal a perfectly normal raster above and below the picture.

Horizontal retrace lines at top of screen

Change 100uf 50-63volts capacitor next to the vertical output ic,if not solved check the vertical b+ filter on the 24volt line.If nothing else work try damping the vertical yoke with 2 300ohms resistors if in series or just one 220-330 ohm resistor if its parallel vertical yoke windings.

This is called Vertical fold over and is almost always a capacitor at fault.
This is an easy repair if you've ever soldered and would not be too costly for a repair shop to do it for you. The problem is a bad Vertical Output IC (usually mounted on an aluminum heat sink with the part on it labeled LA78?? ) and 1 or 2 bad capacitors. Some times you can even fix the problem by re-soldering the contacts of the IC- To find the IC follow the 4 wires that come from the Yoke (which is a contained coil of wires slipped over the neck of the picture tube(s)) back to the board. 2 of the wires go to the horizontal o/p and 2 to the Vertical o/p the thinner gauge wires are for the vertical.

How do you fix a white horizontal line across top of Orion TV?

Hello eatkinson,

This denotes a problem with the vertical deflection circuit. This is more then likely the result of the vertical coupling capacitor failing. You will need the schematic diagram of the TV to find the capacitor in question. it is located between the vertical output stage and the vertical deflection winding of the yoke transformer. In addition check the continuity of the vertical winding of the yoke transformer this can cause the same problem. In any event the problem is that the vertical deflection signal is not getting to the yoke transformer or the yoke transformer is malfunctioning.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Ps 27123 have sound, tuning etc only small horizontal color band

Hello bdedrick708,

If what you are trying to say is that you have a 1/4 inch horizontal line across your screen, this means that something in your vertical deflection circuit has failed. This could be the vertical oscillator, the vertical output processor, the vertical coupling capacitor, or the vertical section of the yoke transformer.

If what you are talking about is a vertical line from top to bottom then you are possibly talking about a failed horizontal section of the yoke transformer.

Why so little about the horizontal section of the yoke? That is because if the horizontal section fails completely then you would lose high voltage and no line would be present because you would not have raster (screen light).

In any even check the yoke transformer first. Then work back from there.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

This seems like a leaky output capacitor. Trace the wire from the deflection coils (in the yoke) that leads to a fairly large electrolytic capacitor (usually less than 1000 uf, 220 or 470 uf and rated at more than 100 volts)Replace with new one. Electrolytics have limited lifespan. Take care when working with TV and monitor. Some large capacitor can retain charges even after the power is off. wait about 1 minute or 2 after pulling the plug before touching anything. Good luck
