The problem you are describing is a problem with teh sensor in side the card cover door. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $149 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

The manual o page 157 says : Lens will not retract. Do not open the memory card/battery cover while the power is on. After closing the memory card/battery cover, turn the power on then back off (pp. 17, 18).
If that does not work the first time, while he camera is off, remove the battery. wait a minute and reinsert the battery. Close the card / battery cover and switch on again.

unless there is a mechanical problem, this should solve the problem.

Have an Olympus Stylus Tough -6000 digital camera and when I turn it on a message appears on the screen that says "card-cover Open" and it won't allow me to operate the camera. The problem is...

remove the batteries and the card from the camera and clean it with something smooth and dry ...after that reinsert the card in th ecamera several times until it is recognised..this happens when the card it is not proper inserted ..or something is meesing with the sensor that detects the cover position...so a gentle cleaning inside will help also..

I have put fresh batteries in my Canon Power Shot S1 camera and it still will not come on? Can you help me?

Contact failures may have occurred between the camera and the batteries.

Confirming that the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] is securely closed

If the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] is not securely closed, the power of the camera may not turn on.

Close the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] securely, and then turn the power on.

Clean the battery terminals with a dry cotton swab that has a fine and soft tip, and then re-insert the batteries.

Camera powers up but lens cover fails to open

It could be some grit or sand causing the lens cover to not open, so the camera won't initialize. Try cutting a slip of paper narrow enough to slide between the lens opening frame and the lens cover. Move it in and out to clear any grit that might cause the spring-loaded cover to bind. Good luck !
