Why has it stopped working?

Most of the time if the bobbin won't engage is you are not making a connection as its has a certain way it goes on. Most New Homes are proprietary on how the different parts engage. If you look and not think too hard take your time, you will discover the proper way to get the bobbin to engage.

My daughter in law's machine won't pick up the bobbin thread. I've never even seen a bobbin that loads like that so I don't know what to tell her. In fact, I've never even heard of a new home sewing...

New Home is Janome.

The bobbin thread may not be picking up because the needle is in backwards.

Refer to the manual for the machine - some require the flat side of the needle face to the back of the machine and some to the left side of the machine.

My machine will not thread any bobbins.

Your bobbin winder has seized. Remove the top cover and oil the area where the bobbin winder shaft goes through the bobbin winder assembly. You might need to force the winder to turn with your fingers for a while, but it will begin to turn smoothly once the oil gets in there.

If the black bobbin winder tire has a flat spot worn into it, you will need a new bobbin winder tire. Costs around a dollar.

Threading a bobbin on the new home 2014le

place spool of thread in , route it towards your bobbin holder, take thread and put through one hole about 4 inches hanging ontop. press it in and slide it to the right where you hear a click, hit the peddle, should be winding, it will automatically stop on its own when full. click it to the left when done, snip it and then drop that into your bobbin holder , cover your plate, thread your upper thread and presto you are now sewing with your threaded bobbin, always remember these steps. #1 material choice #2 thread weight #3 needle size. you got to match those 3 for beautiful perfect stitches.
