Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

My Sears Calypso washer is not draining. discharge pump is new and working. It looks like something is in the plastic tub blocking drainage. How do you remove spindle & SS tub to get at the plastic tub which actually holds the water?

I possibly solved problem, but new question! I saw something that looked like a ball of lint plugging the discharge area. I removed the Dome and Washplate, after taking the top assembly off, and fished out a wad of lint-like material PLUS 3 pieces of spring-steel - like, semi-circular pieces ~ 3/64" thick x 7"L x1/8"W??? Is that any part of the washer? I can't remember any such items in my shop.

hmm, i dont think so, but that was your problem and i would just leave that out....

och you do not wanna do that, you can try to see if there is anything in there by taking the hose off that connects to the pump.

You really should replace the seals, gaskets and o-rings when you remove either the outer or inner wash plate or you have compromised the water tight seal for the U-Joint which drives the wash plate, and the washer will eventually fail completely (rust out the U-joint and brakes), from what the service manual warns. These units tend to eat small articles of clothing in the gap between the wash plate and the tub, if the seal starts to wear. According to the book, the gaskets and such must also be replaced when these plates are removed to avoid the inevitable seal integrity compromise that will ruin the unit's moving parts.

I know this post is 2 yrs. old...but in case anyone is reading...those wires sound like bra underwires, which are notorious for causing these problems

What does the Ld code mean on a calypso Kenmore Elite Washing Mashine

Hello there
LD means a long drain
it is taking longer than 8 minutes to drain out the tub
please check the following
First unplug the machine to prevent electrical shock·
Check wiring harness to ensure they are all connected and are not fried
·If needed remove the side panel and Check the hoses going to pump for clogs and all drain hoses and drainage system
· Check circuit board that controls the pump to see if any wires are burnt or have failed
once the faulty part or the clog has been cleared simply plug in the machine and press the cancel button and resume your normal washing operation
Hope this has been very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

My dishwasher will not drain

Sounds like you may either have a blocked drainage line or a bad pump which controls draining the washer.

I would check to see if there is food scraps blocking the drainage screen inside the wash tub. This is typically the most common problem. If your washer unit drains into the sink drain such as connecting through the garbage disposal (as some do) this might be clogged with what is known as FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease) buildup. This would cause the water to be blocked from being pumped out of the tub.

Check these things and see if they help. A replacement pump can run as much as $100 depending on the unit, plus the installation labor from a repairman. If the unit is more than 5 years old, you might want to consider a newer, more efficient washer unit. A new washer from places like Lowes, can be as little as $300.

most of the time wen this happens ther is a foreign object stopping the drain pump from working.if you still have water in the tub use a shop vac attach it to the drain hose to **** out all the water then pull the hoses of the drain pump and look inside for something stopping the pump if there is nothing found replace the drain pump

Machine shows LD even when water pump was replaced

OK, now that you have a new pump, look at the back ouf the unit. You will have to take off the back cover. On the back of the tub you can see where the 'check balls' are for draining & recirculation. Here's a picture: click here. It might be a little difficult to see through the plastic, but check to see if there is anything stuck inside there near the check balls. If so, you have to take the pump hoses off at the tub connections. You can use mechanical finger grabbers to get stuff out. Check this picture also: click here. If you take the hoses off, check them for debris inside. Check your drain hose to the house drain also, could be something in that hose too. Flex shaft mechanical fingers look like this: click here. you can get them at just about any autoparts store.

Hope this helps,

Calipso washer will not drain

what you are seeing is a blockage inside the tub. when the water cant get to the drain hose it will try to **** the water in it and that will cause the hose to colapse you need to remove the hose and see what is in it causing the no drain condition. i would guess a sock or something small like that. might even be a coin but something is blocking the water from getting into the drain pump.

Water still in bottom of tub after drain/spin cycle

I removed the drain hose from the bottom left rear corner of the washer & cleaned a large amount of gooey sludge from the bottom of the drain inside the washing machine.

Whirlpool calypso washing machine

Buy a new machine. We purchased ours from Sears 4 years ago, thank goodness we purchased the extended warranty, as Sears has been out numerous times to repair. In January 08, Sears replaced the pump only after they forced us to sign a waiver before they would even touch it, because my washing machine sits in a drain pan and they didn't install the drain pan. We signed the waiver (I need my washer) and the tech destroyed the drain pan and my my floor, basically she forced me to give her permission to do so. February 08 the extended warranty expired, June 08 the pump quit working again and Sears only warrantys part replacement for 90 days. BTW - the previous Whirlpool calypso model and Kenmore had a class action suit against them. Sounds like the newer models owners should do the same. Sears techs even told us to get rid of it. We bought a new one from Home Depot...
