OK, this problem was driving me almost to tears with frustration but have managed to bodge-solve it so hope this helps!

Right click My computer and select Properties.
Click on Hardware tab.
Click on Device Manager.
Hopefully there is a yellow question mark symbol against Iriver T30 listed under other devices or portable devices or something.
Right click this then select Update Driver.
Tell it that you are going to manually update the driver yourself.
Eventually you will have to select what type of device it is - select portable device.
Now click on MTP device and click next to install the driver.
Hopefully now it is recognised by XP in My Computer....

Good luck

After you select 'update driver', choose 'install from a specific
location' and then 'don't search, I will choose driver to install'...

I got the same problem and the above link fixed it.
The reason this occurs is because you need to
update the firmware of the iRiver T30 to the latest version.
Just go to the above link and unzip the file it tell you to
and simply run it, it will give you a menu and the software will do the rest. Lastly don't worry if you only get 50% done message, as
leave it for 10 minutes then disconnect the usb cable and take the
battery out of the T30, put it back and presto, my computer can read the T30 folder. You can use the library in Windows media player or just copy and paste from Windows Explorer, you can copy back and forth as you please. Enjoy.

Check the player when it is connected to the USB port, the player mode can be changed between USB or MTP. it must be on USB for the pc to recognize it.

MP3 Player not recognized as being connected to USB port

If you do not have the installation disk, Open my Computer with your mp3player plugged in, then look for your mp3players brand name. open this file and simply drag files in.

If you cannot get the computer to recognize it at all, look for your a driver on google e.g: iRiver driver.

Good luck, respond with more details if you can't figure it out.

The dvd player wont open and it isn't reading dvd's.

You will want to check in Device Manager to see if the device is even detected by the computer. Right Click My Computer, Properties, Click Hardware Tab and Device Manager. If it isn't recognizing the DVD drive then it is most likely bad.

I think you mean that you need the driver for your Computer to recognize the player instead of the iRiver needing an actual driver or firmware. If this is the case, then the best solution would be to google the make and model of your computer and "usb drivers". You will likely find a downloadable .exe driver and that should fix your problem
If that isn't what you mean to say then:
Heres a link to the latest firmware for your mp3 player.
Just download the .hex file and put it into the "root" folder of your iriver mp3player. Then safely disconnect the mp3 player from the computer. Then go to the general options menus and select firmware upgrade. This should take you through the process of upgrading your firmware.

i would need you to try connecting it to some other ports and see how it respond because you see, some devices tend to behave like they are working properly but wouldn't work if they are not connected to a hi-speed hub(port) let's say 2.0 or something.hope this solved your problem?

How do you load music onto the mp3player

It's pretty simple once you know how. I'm assuming you have general knowledge of a computer, basically connect the mp3 to the computer either directly or using the USB cable. Go to My Computer and that should show you your MP3 player, but it may be recognized as a Removable disc (doesn't matter if it does). Then if you have music already stored on the computer simply copy and paste or drag and drop onto the MP3/Removable disc.

That's a rough solution for you.

Does not recognize

The dinging sound is the USB port telling Windows that a device is connected, and does not necessarily mean that Windows recognizes a device.
