Mysterious metal piece under vacuum motor?

I was removing the motor in order to service it, and there was this small (about 2 inches long) and bent thin metal piece under the motor. Now that I'm trying to put everything back together, I can't quite figure out how to orient that piece in order to make it fit!! Anyone have any clue about this mysterious metal piece?

This requires removal of the transmission assembly and replacement of the pedal assembly - it cannot be repaired. The handle and upper motor shell must be remove to access the transmission assemby. There are two screws in front, and two under the plastic switch plate.

NEED TO CHANGE A BELT

First you need to remove the metal cover to expose the brush roll assembly. Push up the plastic cover connected to the foot pedal to expose the motor shaft. Remove the brush roll assembly and simply hook the belt on the motor shaft first then pull back the brush roll and push the brush roll back to the slot. There's a small piece of plastic on the left hand side of the brush roll. This piece would go in after the brush is set in the slot. Finally, replace the metal cover.

Formed metal wire inside handle

this bent metal wire goes right at the surface in a grove where the two pieces of the handle go together where your fingers grip it. I think it is to discharge static electricity.

E series

The clear lenses on either side of the top part of the E-series Rainbow are removable. If you look at the each lens you will see two sections on the top edge of each lens that looks like this |___| |___| about 1 1/2 inches in from each end. Put a small screwdriver in the middle of each one of these (I used 2 screwdrivers at once) and pry out. The clips will come undone and you can remove the lens this way, exposing the screws which hold the motor cover on. On my E-2, there were 4 screws under here, and once I removed them, the top came right off.

No; the new pump has a metal pulley which is more durable then red plastic pulley. be sure to place a 3/4 thick x 10 inch long (small shelf works) piece of wood under housing before removing top.

Most of these motors, the fan cover is just pressed on, but getting off isn't easy and you don't want to bent it up. Maybe using a flatblade try to knock it off from the edge of it may loosen it enough to pull it off.

Rainbow vacuum not sucking up dirt

I think he was talking about the separator. It has a nut holding it on, remove it then it will pull off. It is mounted on the motor shaft, right in the middle, on the bottom. Take it off and clean with water using a small stiff brush.
