Thank you, I was able to confirm that there is a dial tone and filters everywhere else, even tried it with another phone jack, same issue, do you think the modem is bad?

If the DSL light is blinking it means that there is no DSL carrier signal to your modem. Check the phone line and make sure you have no open lines and filters are on all the devices hooked up to your phone system except your modem. You can check for an open line by hooking up a phone to the phone line going into your modem and listen for a dial tone.

It's possible that the modem is bad, but before I tossed it, I would see if the DSL provider (qwest or whoever you have) can see it on their netword. If they can, they may be able to tell you why it can't pick up the dsl carrier.

I am trying to connect a D-Link DIR-628 router to a Qwest Actiontec GT-701-WG DSL modem. My computer OS is windows XP-service pack 3. The modem works fine when connected directly to the computer and...

Plug your internet into the router then, the router to the computer. Go to your network settings and run the network setup. This will change the settings in windows to except the router into the network. You may have to restart the computer. This should give you internet access to your computer through your router.

check the configuration of the modem if you can. I do not know the exact model of the modem, could you post it? then with the exact model of the modem you could google it for a Manual, Handbook, or simply good configurations. If the configurations are good, then could be the firmware that is not updated, or in the last case ask Qwest to change your modem for one that works.
A piece of advice don't open it or modify it because you could void the warranty, in case of a change.

Hope this help you!!!

Did you Unplug the Modem from Your Electrical Outlet, AND Unplug the Telephone Line coming in too, for 5 minutes?? Give "it" a chance to Completely Re-set/Reboot..I have a GT701 DSL Modem, that's what I did, and it worked fine. "IF" that doesn't work I would go to "Support" at either Action-Tech or Your DSL/IP Provider. Hope this Helps you.

Actiontec Modem Won't Work!

take a wire and carefully touch it to the two attachment points of the copper ring on the left side while it is plugged in. I first froze my system for 15 min then thawed out and touched the wire as instructed and all works fine.

To open the box remove the clear soft contacts on the bottom, should be four. Using a small philips remove them and pull the box in two. Then fix according.

Hope this helps

The DSL router/modem will receive an address from your ISP (Qwest) and will assign an address to the connected PC.

There should be a cable that goes from your DSL modem to your PC. It'll either be a USB cable (flat rectangular plug on the PC end), or a RJ45 (looks like a wider telephone plug).

If there is neither connection between the DSL modem and your PC, then the PC can't "talk" to the DSL modem, so it's not getting an address from the DSL modem.
