RYOBI Quickstart petrol trimmer start cord snapped internally

I have a RYOBI Quickstart petrol trimmer that had problems starting and running on idle. I checked the sparkplug and that's okay; I suspect I have used the wrong ratio fuel mixture. In the course of all this attempted starting I have broken the starting cord inside. Where can I get a manual and the spare cord to DIY? Many thanks Alan

SOURCE: ryobi 31cc lawn trimmer carb adjustment

As with all 2 strokes if you have compression and a reasonable spark, you only need fresh fuel with correct oil ratio) and they must go !(as long as you haven't fiddled first and all gaskets are sealing) I start mine by(1) pumping the primer till it is firm,(2) full choke,(3) pull till it kicks ONCE,(4) half choke, pull till it runs, allow to warm up and(5) switch to run (you may need to apply a bit of throttle while pulling as in (4)(or give it a few more pumps if it dies) If all is ok, check that when properly warmed up there is a smooth transition from idle to full revs, if it hesitates it may need the LOW SPEED mixture leaning (clockwise) SLIGHTLY.If it dies the LOW SPEED mixture may need richening(anti-clockwise)(adjust 1/8 turn at a time) Make sure that motor is just peaking at full revs and is on the RICH side of peaking (HIGH SPEED mixture)(this will avoid seizing it Adjust both till it revs cleanly and is JUST rich at full, and idleing nicely and it should start without too much trouble.(If you have fiddled and are lost,-about 2 1/2 turns out from closed on both needles should get you started)

Starting up Ryobi Petrol Strimmer

full choke on , push petrol bubble 5 times then pull starter cord., with luck it will kick in to life after a 20/30 secs put on half choke , run again for 30 secs the no ckoke.

The main problem with Ryobi products is that they flood very very easly. So the more time you try and pump petrol into the carb the more it will flood . If that happenes then choke off and switch off and then just pull starter cord for about 30 secs then switch on and it could start if not prime it again as above good luck

Petrol weed eater will not start. Alomost starts

Hi Mark, I own a shop, we will not work on ryobi, have you gotten 2 seasons out of it? If so thats probably as good as it gets. But you can check carb settings. In the USA they come with limiters on the adjustment screws, not too much you can do(break them off) back your adjustments counter clockwise 1half turn.

Ryobi Reeleasy line trimmer head PROBLEM

sounds like the clip isn't engaging properly. For a bump and feed they have steps that lock when enough cord is set out. If the head is not locked when its on it will recoil in. Try to make sure its not sitting wrong.

Got a Ryobi Petrol grass trimmer but cant start i anymore as there is no resistance on the cord when trying to start it. Any ideas?

Sounds like the starter spool is stripped. This the one with the cord on it. You have to dismantle the unit to replace it but it is not too hard. You can get a replacement online or ot your local small engine shop. Good luck...Lee

Mcculloch petrol trimmer not starting too good and cutting out when u eventuall get it started

Hi
Please try these suggestions if youve not done so already:
  1. Clean the air filter
  2. Check fuel primmer bubble (if it has one pressurizes)
  3. Spark at plug, when pulling cord (When they degrade, some plugs can fire itermittently - check also with a continuity meter) BUY a new plug
  4. Fuel in present in the combustion chamber (use a torch to see inside plug hole if the if the piston head looks wet from petrol) also the smell will definately be strong
  5. You ay need to adjust the carb idling screw to increase idling speed when engine has warmed up.
These things I tried after investigation & worked for me, unit starts up a treat. Hope thisa helps

"warm" starting

Hi
You may have tried this already, Apologies if you have.

I have had the same problem & spent a day stripping the unit down
(dismantled & re-assembled the carb, seemed OK fuel reaching & flooding the plug) I unscrewed the spark plug from the body, but left it connected to the lead and found that there was intermittent spark when pulling the cord. and tested it with a continuity meter - no signal/measurement. bought a new spark plug, meter reading showed signal/measurement, now starts every time. It may be that Ryobi has been installing rather cheap nasty plugs. So test the plug first by watching the spark when pulling cord, test with a meter, if no continuity, buy new plug....this solved it for me
