The best way to upgrade your ram is to know what you have first! If you are not familiar with taking out the RAM and reading the side of it to tell what it is,  just take the computer to a local friendly mom and pops type shop and the techs their will usually be happy to tell you what you have.  Its crucial to use exactly what is compliant with what you have.  Over all its a real simple thing, to upgrade your ram but you have to know what your doing.  For example what is your fsb speed? what is the ram that is has in it now?  If you can just take out a memory stick and read the label on it and do a web search, it can tell all.

Where did you buy the replacement fuses? Radio Shack?

Some of these fuses are special and the poor ones which are generic will pop for no reason sometimes; examine original fuse and holder for correct amperage and type of fuse used.

Installed a Foxconn A74mx-k Mobo with new Amd X2 4850e and 4 GB of Corsair DDR2 (800) running a 7200 RPM IDE HDD and Ide DVD player. Problems: My 3-d Fireplace screen saver is choppy, DVD movies play for...

There is a utility that comes with your motherboard on the CD that will allow you to control all aspects of your's HD 5.1 and works great on the same mobo I have.
You have installed XP, so you're open to doing a little "tinkering".
I would begin by resetting your bios, as you may have inadvertantly changed some settings there that are causing problems.  You can find instructions on how to do this in the manual.  It's simple though, unplug the power cord, remove the battery from mobo and move the little blue jumper over to the left two prongs and leave it there for about 10 seconds, then move the jumper back, put the battery back in, plug the power in and boot.  It will tell you at boot that the cmos time is bad etc., just hit F2 to load default settings and see how that runs.... then you can begin making minor tweaks in the BIOS if needed, but you probably won't have to.
After resetting the bios, boot into windows and then insert the disk that came with your motherboard and re-install all of the drivers and utilities(if desired).
Of course your mobo has integrated graphics, I don't know what the other fellow is talking about. That board has the 740g (which is basically the 790g) chipset, DVI and VGA out, and is a killer integrated graphics card for the money.
Also, are you running XP 32 or 64 bit?  32 bit will have problems recognizing your 4GB of RAM, and I'm not sure but may even cause problems accessing the's possible that your RAM is not running at full speed...and there are many other factors and variables that could be causing your problem.
For now, try the BIOS reset and re-install drivers (for mobo on CD), and see if that fixes the problem.  If not, I will help you figure it out, as that is a very good mobo, even for the price.
