The best way to upgrade your ram is to know what you have first! If you are not familiar with taking out the RAM and reading the side of it to tell what it is,  just take the computer to a local friendly mom and pops type shop and the techs their will usually be happy to tell you what you have.  Its crucial to use exactly what is compliant with what you have.  Over all its a real simple thing, to upgrade your ram but you have to know what your doing.  For example what is your fsb speed? what is the ram that is has in it now?  If you can just take out a memory stick and read the label on it and do a web search, it can tell all.

My laptop ram is 1GB. i want to extand it. which type of ram is good for it and what is its cost?

Dear! If its RAM is not fixed and it has facility to replace the RAM, you can extend it but if the RAM is fixed on motherboard you can not extend it. There are two types of RAMs: (i) DDR1 (ii) DDR2
1GB DDR1 costs upto $30 and 1GB DDR2 costs upto $20, there may a chance of $3-$4 in prices.
Now you choose that which type of RAM your laptop has?

Hi, I want to upgrade my RAM from 256 MB 400MHz DDR1 (hynix) to 1GB DDR1. Do the both will work together or i would have to use 1GB alone? Im having ASUS K8V- VM motherboard. Will it be compatible with...

It will be compatible but it is recommended, you use same type of modules(RAM)
ie 256 MB + 256 MB
1GB + 1GB
Plus the advantage of using two instead of one(If you want 2GB, go for 1-1Gb two modules, depends on you) are, if one fails other works.

I have intel D845 Mother board with 4 memory (ram) slots one I am using is 256 KB SD RAM & I want to use one 128 KB SD Ram is it possible to use both Thanks.

Hello yeah, you can use both RAMs if they are compatible in terms of bus speed and type like DDR1.
Different types of DRAM modules (eg. DDR200 and DDR266 DIMMs/PC100 and PC133 DIMMs) should not be installed on one motherboard at the same time. This motherboard supports memory modules with capacities of 64/128/256/512MB and 1GB.
Hope this helps

Do I need to buy 2 DDR2 Ram for my ASUS P5VDC-MX Motherboard?

with rams, if the memory it has is higher than that of your cpu, the pc will not boot up or if it is too low compared to your cpu again.

thus, you say it has got two slots right, remove both of the 512's and insert the 1gig only, run your computer, i am sure it will boot up nicely. switch it off. put one 512, if it does not boot then you should know that your ram has an excess of memory that your cpu could not apprehend to.

post a coment if this does not work.

thanks,

wonder

Can i install 1GB ddr2 on P4VMM2 Motherboard? i want to upgrade my pc; board is: can i P4VMM2 Motherboard; cani i use 1GB ddr2 on this and a 512 MB if vid.card? -jayvee_yao@yahoo.com

Hi,

Unfortunetly you cannot use ddr2 memory on this motherboard. The motherboard supports only PC2100/PC1600 DDR memory if you have version 8.1 of the motherboard. If you have v5.0 of the motherboard than you can only use sdram or ddr 266Mhz RAM. The same goes for the video card. The p4vmm2 motherboard is a rather old motherboard so I don't think it will payoff to upgrade the computer. It will be probably the best if you buy another computer.

best regards

Memory cards

Normally 512MB is a good configuration of Ram to work with Windows Xp Sp2 but you have clean your temporary files frequently

Increasing RAM will not give you much speed difference because first you have study the Motherboard Bus speed and the cache memory - Actual speed increase from those things and the compatibilty.

Changing Ram you have to determine what type of ram and its bus speed whether its a SD Ram or DDR1 or 2 I hope now days SD ram cost more because its outdated and DDR1 is also bit costly than DDR2.

Can't Install RAM in DDR2 and DDR3 DIMM slots

You cannot use DDR and DDR2 ram at the same time, because its always been like that (ie, no SD and DDR, or SD and RIMM)

What you should do is switch to all DDR2 sticks.
