My Kitchen Aid Refrigerator model KFCS22EVMS8 is leaking water . I was told that I should clean the drain pipe. How can I clean it and stop the leak? Thanks

The drain is plugged up from ice and debris that comes off the food in the normal process of working. You may have to remove the back panel in the freezer and pour hot water in the drain area at the rear bottom if the freezer under the coils. After thawing the ice it would be a good idea to run a short piece of 1/4 inch plastic hose, maybe about 18" or so, down the drain to push any debris through the hose. Flush it out well with hot water and this should be good for several years.

Water on floor - french door refrigerator with freezer below

Yes the bottom compartment does have a drain opening but to see it you will need to remove the rear panel covering the evaporator inside the back wall of the freezer compartment. See item location number 11 on page 3 of the parts list. That will need to be removed so you can reach the drain inside the freezer compartment. The fresh food section also has a drain. Winterizing Whirlpool refrigerator icemaker and water dispenser

I'm assuming this is in a cabin or trailer so what I would do before you unplug the fridge is for the season is pull it out, kill the water supply open the water fitting where the filter is and drain the water, you will have to push in the water dispenser door button to allow the air through the water line to drain properley. Good luck

Water in bottom of freezer

If the water is showing on the freezer side, more than likely you have a clogged drain. This occurs when the machine goes into defrost and the melted ice somehow is prevented from draining and therefor refreezing and blocking the drain for the next defrost cycle. The best way to resolve this is to unplug the machine for atleast 24-48 hours to let all ice melt. Also note on the maytags these days they put a rubber piece called a duck bill on the bottom half of the drain which will also cause this over time. To access this piece you'll have to pull the machine from the wall and remove the lower panel and find the plastic drain and remove the duck bill

Leak!

Hi as well,

With no other source of water for the leak, this has to be your defrost water, and it does sound like the drain to the evaporator pan is clogged.

The pan will be underneath the unit -- should be a panel you can remove along the bottom edge to access the pan.

If you trace the drain from the bottom of the unit back into the fridge, you can find where the water is supposed to drain into the pan. This is apparently clogged.

Water drips from bottom of fridge. It happens

look in the bottom of the inside of the freezer, you probably will see ice buildup. You have to clear the drain which is stopped up at the bottom of the panel that covers the freezer evaporator.Every 8 hours the drain receives water from the auto defrost and needs to go in the drain, if drain is stopped up it freezes and eventually runs out the front

Leaking water

dianaluscou,

The freezer has a drain hole in it typically in the back at the bottom. This is clogged and needs to be cleared out in order to stop the water problem in the refrigerator section. Remove everything from the freezer and if needed defrost. Look for the drain hole and you can pour hot water or use a hair dryer to melt the ice in the drain. Once it is unclogged, the water problem should stop.

I just did this about 6 months ago on my own refrigerator/freezer.
