Bissell Cleanwell II Bagless uprighht vacuum

While using the vacuum, it begins to smell like burning rubber and the smell goes throughout the house, What can be causing this to happen, can it be fixed or do I have to purcahse a new vacuum. This has been going on for about three months now. When you begin to use it, there is no smell but after about 10 minutes or so it comes back. Thank you Marc

Hi Pmob20,

Remove the brush and clean all the string or whatever may be trapped at the end edges of the brush.  This is usually the case with Bissel vacs, that string or fiber gets trapped at the ends of the brush assembly.

Why do the belts keep breaking

Hi there,

Well the problem happens due to the belt If the belt not installed correctly, the rubber belt will grate against one of the components in the roller brush housing. The friction of the belt against the housing produces a pungent burning odor. To correct this you need a right belt, each vacuum cleaner manufacturer produces specific belts for specific machines. An incompatible belt installed on the vacuum cleaner will cause the belt to break or burn.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Bisell 3750 bagless makes a burning rubber smell after about two minutes

Hi,
The first place to look is the brush roller for hair or thread binding it. Put the machine on it's side and look at the underneath side towards the front. Th brush roller will be there. Take the cover off to expose the roller and see if there is something wound around it.
Good Luck,
Wayne

Bissell lift off bagless making high pitched noise, fan seems to run for 30 seconds after shutting off, and a burning rubber smell, is it the belt, and how easy are they to change

The burning rubber smell is usually the belt. Be careful not to use it on your carpet as the rubber belt can get hot and liquify and really mess up your carpet (if you have one). Here's a link to some instructions for replacing the belt.

Bissell lift off, brush won't move smell burning rubber belt fine

OK - so your brush roller is jammed. And yes, the belt is melting! Unplug the machine, remove the belt (you will need another new one anyway) then see if you can turn the roller by hand. If it turns freely without you doing anything else, then you may have put the new belt in incorrectly. However, you will probably find you can't turn it, or it's hard work (it should rotate freely). Remove the roller and check the bearings - there may well be something tangled up at one end of the roller. If you can get the roller rotating freely, all should be well.
Good luck

Brush bar wont turn, Bissell smells like burning rubber

The belt just goes from the motor shaft to the brush roll. Do the ends of the brush trun freely, or is one of them froze up, if so replace the brush roll. If it is ok, try to turn the brush roll by hand, maybe the belt got pinched and won't move.
