There are codec updates that have to occur in order to play certain movie types. This is not the case for a normal DVD so I am assuming you are trying to watch a DivX or XVid or something of that nature?

The code will be different depending on which remote control you're using. What type of remote control do you have?

What video format does this dvd player support.if i write a dvd it is not working in this player

Philips DVP3020 does not support popular vidoe formats such as DivX / xvid / mp4. so if you download movies from the internet and burn to a DVD, chances are it will not work. this philips player is very basic and can only play regular DVDs, VCDs and audio CDs. that is why it is cheap. you should try Philips DVP 3010 or 5140, even better the 5960.

Not able to view all the mpeg2 files in phillips dvd player, however i can view them on my computer?

That happens because some Mpeg file may use additional codec modules that can be installed on computer, but are not supported by the player.

Codecs are algorithms used in movie compression, they are programmed modules that must be pre-loaded by a player, or a computer system to play compressed movies.

The phenomenon is normal and is caused by DVD player factory specs limitation.

To read all Mpg and AVi you can try updating the player system Software, as described on manual, or calling Philips for step by step support.
Even after updating , the DVD will not read files that are using certain codecs.

Here the update for Philips DVP 5140/12 UK , if you load wrong update the player may not work anymore, better calling Philips if you want to update the player. Number is listed on the owner manual.

Do not forget to leave feedback.

Thanks.

Philips dvd 3445h doesn't seem to support pal format

You would have to either convert the DVDs to NTSC by ripping them to your computer and using conversion software, or you need to get a player that supports PAL and NTSC. Phillips has players that do both NTSC and PAL but it sounds like the one you have doesn't.
I have a Phillips DVP 5140 that does PAL and NTSC and is region unlocked.
There are other players on the market that do support it, but you will have to look around a bit.

Best of luck
