Maytag LDG9334AAE Gas dryer making popping noise from vent

Maytag LDG9334AAE Gas dryer starts and drys fine, but after it warms up a few minutes there is a loud clunking-popping-banging noise that will come and go. At times it almost sounds like it is backfiring.
I did a little troubleshooting and here is what I've found so far. I removed the small inspection cover at the lower rear, and looked inside while it was running. Belt looks very good, things were running smooth, nothing looked out of the ordinary, just that loud popping noise. It sounded like it was coming from near the vent. I found that when I hold my hand over the exhaust vent opening, the noise stops. I remove my hand, the noise returns. Any ideas?

    Hi, thanks for the reply!
This is a new installation with all new solid wall dryer vent pipe only 1-2 months ago so vent pipe is not dirty. Screen cleaned regularly and not much lint in there. Where else should I clean?

    Hi there,
I finally found a manual and tore the dryer apart as you suggested. It was not really dirty, but I cleaned everything anyway. While disassembling the dryer, I found a spring clamp. I found that odd until I got to the blower wheel. The wheel was very loose on the motor shaft, and looked like something (maybe a clamp) should hold it tighter. I checked the manual, and sure enough, that's where the clamp came from. The wheel was still wobbly even with the clamp installed, so I shimmed it with toothpicks to tighten it up. When I started the dryer, the noise was gone! It seems to be working properly now. I know the toothpicks will not hold for long, so I have ordered a new blower wheel. Should be here in a few days! Thanks for helping. Even though it wasn't clogged, I still needed to tear it down that far to find and fix the problem.

Thanks again, and have a good one!

Clean clean clean everything, dont let it go to much longer or you will have a fire, and dont ignore this or you regret it... then tell me if it makes the noise

My Maytag gas dryer makes a loud rattle and clanging noise.

Hi,

Prob. some failure of a bracket or loose inside...
Have a local tecnician check it out.
i think that ll be best cause i can't imagine that will be an easy fix.

I hope this is useful, and greets,

Olivier.

Low heat output

A clogged or partially clogged vent . Especially if vents up thru the wall . If it vents straight out , make sure you have good air flow to the outside . Make sure the vent hose has no sharp kinks also . Try drying a load with the vent hose disconnected from the dryer . If clothes dry fine , that tells you the problem is elsewhere . Normally , a dryer either heats or doesn't heat . A heat for a few minutes then stops heating but continues to run complaint ,would be bad coils on the gas valve .

Very Loud Dryer

squeeling hi pitch is usually the drum support roller above the heater. if you take the machine apart and turn all moving parts by hand you should be able to find the problem...if its a rumbling noise then it may be the blower wheel. UNPLUG FIRST..good luck :)

Maytag performa dryer doesn't fully heat

A couple of suggestions. STOP, be sure the gas it turned off before disconnecting the line. Move it to an open area and check all venting. A good cleaning makes a huge difference. I believe your problem to be the heating coil is on it's way out, "works sometime". Write down the Make, Model, Seriel Number & Year of MFG...someone may ask for it..Check Your local appliance store for price & availablity Easy to replace on most model dryers.
When reattaching the gas line, be safe not to overtighten the coupler. A safe test for leaks is NOT a match... a drop or two of dishsoap around the fittings will bubble if it is not sealed. Good Luck
