I can't find the manual for my Juki TL98E and it needs oiled. What all needs oiled? Also, when quilting, top thread frays then breaks. What causes this? Thanks, Alma

I found my manual and oiled my machine. Then I found the solution to the thread breaking (online) - I just needed to drop my feeder! Thanks anyway. Alma

I have a Juki TL98E and when I got it forgot to put the presser foot down and obviously the needle broke several times. Now the thread keeps breaking. Thoughts?

Remove all the thread from the machine. Thoroughly check that there are no stray threads or lint stuck anywhere. Oil your machine per the instructions.

Make sure you are using a brand new needle.

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread the machine. Verify the thread path is correct. Check that the bobbin is installed and threaded correctly.

Set the tension to the midway point. Pull the bobbin thread to the top of the fabric. Gently hold the thread tails while you take a couple of slow stitches.

If it is still not sewing correctly, it's quite possible the timing is off (which is common when a needle breaks). You'll probably need to take it for service.

I have started quilting a large quilt and having problems with the bottom thread showing through at the hole puncture. My backing is purple and the bottom thread matches the purple color. My top is made...

Use a universal #10 needle. The smaller the hole from the needle the less you will see of the bottom thread showing on the top. And I'm sure your using good quality #50 weight cottom thread, right?

When free motion quilting I get loops on top of the fabric and on the bottom when doing tight curves. I also get thread "puke" - tangles and snarls on the bottom when going through the quilt...

Check the height of the quilt under the machine-adjust the bars until the quilt is just barely over the bed of the machine, and level front to back and side to side. Also, level up the frame, using a long carpenter's level. You'd be surprised how much this can help with all sorts of thread problems.

Where to oil? thanks

Look at all the holes on the outside of the machine-oil the ones without threads in them. I've tried oiling the works inside the machine, but that ends up making a greasy mess. Be sure to clean out old oil and lint regularly-it's amazing how much lint can build up, especially with certain threads. And, you definitely don't want nasty old oil transferring to your quilt! Check the platform under the machine-excess oil can drip down there, causing ucky problems. A well oiled, but clean, machine is a happy machine!

I am having problems with my Juki TL98E skipping stitches when I free-motion quilt. I have cleaned it well, put in a new needle but still having problems. When I stitch forward, it's ok, but when I try to...

It is a timing issue. I have a TL98E. The needle bends a bit when free motion quilting, moving the needle away from the hook, thus missing the thread. Try to put in a larger needle, or have the timing changed so that the hook "kisses" the size needle that you want to use. Tammy

I have a Juki tl98e it often has a problem with the bobbin not sewing on the bottom of the quilt. Especially when you first start quilting. Stopping and starting. I do not have a manual for this machine....

A manual is the best 'tool' you can get for your sewing machine. The manual will explain how to thread the machine, how the machine works, what the different buttons and levers are for, how to maintain it, etc. Before you do anything else, get a manual :)

BOBBIN TREAD LOOPING UNDERNEATH

looping thread on the bobbin side means that the upper tension is too loose... make sure it's threaded correctly.

Needle Thread breaking after about 30 seconds of quilting

Make sure the feed dogs are dropped (or feed dog cover is on - I can't remember which way this machine works). The stitch length on the machine has no function so ignore it. (I set it to zero so the machine doesn't have to work as hard). Hopefully this is all that's wrong. If not, use a shorter setting for the stitch length on the regulator, oil the hook and move slowly and smoothly.
Good luck!

Needle thread breaks while quilting on machine frame

My friend and I both have the Juki 98Q but on different frames - we were both having problems (needles breaking, thread getting tangled) we removed the thin metal thing inside the bobbin case and have had no problems since (over a year now!).
