On Goldstar WG6000R window air conditioner, what is the difference between "cool" and "dry" settings?

Dry means that the air is dehumidified, not heated or cooled. Cool means the temperature is reduced.

Loud rattles in front fan and loud hummiing from unit itself along w minimal cooling and freezing up

Unfortunately sounds like the squirrel cage in the front may have broken off at the hub. This is a pretty extensive job on most window units, not all that costly (parts wise) but quite a lot of labor.

What maintance do goldstar conditions need? My cooler is not working as well and I cleaned the front filter. I'm not sure what window conditioner I have.

these units need to be cleaned every few years. so take it outside, get your garden hose; and clean the coils on both sides. front an back coils need to be clean. a coil cleaner should be used but good water presure should do fine. try not to get switches to wet. or cover them first. spray coils clean. let dry in the sun. tilt unit to get most water out then blow dry with a fan or just wait till its dry it will work like new after your done.good luck

My ac says its "dry"

This is not an alarm state, It is a mode setting. Most air-conditioning units has a facility to dry out the air from its surroundings. Its is a easy way of bringing the humidity levels down without changing the temperature.

What does the "dry" mode function do on the Goldstar GWHD6507R window air conditioner unit? There are also "cool" and "fan" modes, but the "dry" mode is mysterious. Is it some kind of dehumidifier...

Your AC removes humidity and cools the air, in Dry Mode it cools the air but does not remove the humidity as much, which is OK in a desert (Las Vegas, Arizona, etc.) but not good for caribbean with the high humidity

I have a Goldstar window unit 6500 BTU it has Cool, Fan, and Dry

in all honesty, it's a ridiculous gimmick. the system still runs the same as it would when you are using the A/C, however in Dry Mode there is a small heater in the unit which runs also, to prevent the system from lowering your room's air temp. a/c's always dehumidify air anyway, so basically dry mode is like running a/c and heat at the same time. $$$$$$.

Dry mode

it is supposed to dehumidify the air by running the compressor for a short period of time but not long enough to lower the temperature to any large degree
