I have a problem with cover open although it is closed, i am trying to find out where the switch is so that i could close it myself or replace it. Any ideas on where i could pick up schematic diagrams for this model would be appreciated. I did call tech support n they r as useless as i am.
I changed ink cartridge and all it says on screen is cover open? what do i do?

My X3480 started to display 'Cover Open' the first time I changed the ink cartridge. It has not worked since. I have tried the solutions offered by fellow sufferers to no avail. This is clearly a design fault - so why is Lexmark in denial? I agree their Tech Support is useless. They should hold their hands up and replace all machines with this problem even if out of warranty (I bought mine as back-up over a year ago but I've only had one cartridge of ink's use out of it).
(PS: My solution: Drive your useless Lexmark X3480 to the seaside and drop it over the highest cliff you can find. This ensures you have to buy a replacement printer thus solving the problem. Never buy another Lexmark product - ever!). geoff.cooper@hotmail.co.uk
cover open error will not clear. even when cover is closed. will not shut off by depressing power button. have you any idea how to resolve this issue? i've tried to find the problem by unplugging. can't locate lever that activates cover open message.
GD day mate, Im having the same problem except that my printer is a Lexmark X1185 All-in-one printer. Right now, I'm holding the same plastic piece as the one your holding in the picture but I've no idea where it should be or how to dissamble the printer. What did you do to take apart the printer?

Printer shows cover open message. The small plastic lever that operates a switch can pop off. If you can retrieve the plastic lever and remove the hinged top of the printer you can put it back in place. It's a bit fiddly but I did manage to do it.

Same issue but have no white arm (must be lodged somewhere as i have shaken and shaken, and shaken).
One solution is to wedge one of the 3 different levers (That all connect to the same point) open. I've done this with the lever that sits directly behind the printer head when it comes to the centre which solves the 'Cover Open' issue but then initiates a 'Paper Jam' error message. Un-wedging this lever then leaves the printer useable but obviously this is not a long term solution.
Without the arm to snap back on, is there any solution?
