Maytag performa pavt244aww washer burnt rubebr and black pieces

Washer made horrific squealing sounds during the spin cycle. Tilting it up and examining the belt showed pieces of the melted belt stuck to the pulley on the top right. What needs to be replaced besides the belt?

Check with the belt off that the bowl will turn freely, if not check drum bearings or something caught between inner & outer bowl. Make sure when you fit new belt it is adjusted to the right tension or it will slip & burn.

SOURCE: Grinding sound during agitation cycle on my Maytag Performa

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

Washer squealed, gave off black smoke in spin cycle

For sure change the belt. Clean the pulleys with a solvent to remove anything oily or like melted belt. The machine probably was overloaded. If it's a front loader, check the bearings.

During the spin cycle, the machine shakes violently and dances across the floor. It has a loud squealing noise during this. My Performa is only about 14 months old. This is very disappointing for a Maytag.

Look in owners manual. I think these washers have a 1/2 hp. variable speed motor. make sure the washer is level from front to back and side to side, if its not that could be the problem. The motor has a lot of force, the squealing could be a bad bearing not sure.

Maytag Performa PAVT920AWW washer makes a squealing sound

i am sorry but i had this problem happen before with my customer maytag performa, what i found out is that the brakes become crystallized, causeing a squeaking noise, remember in agitation, the brakes stops the the drum from spinning, what i advise you to do is change out the breaks or take the brake pads and rub them with sand paper

thanks

When the machine drains etc the gearbox locks up and the whole unit drum box and all spins when washing the gearbox innerds move the otherway so to speak and this cuasees a washing action this sounds as if the input shaft may need replaceing but it is usually better to replace the gearbox depends on finances but to be sure get a technition in to check and quote you first this is not something you can do if you have not done it before

Maytag Performa Washer

Hi brawn253

The oil is comming from the transmission. The only way to fix it is to have it replaced. alot of the orlder machiens have this happen and keep working for many years after. as for the squeal its normal. its just the break some of the oils have got in there and the squealing is a resault of that. I wouldnt be to worried about it.

Maytag Performa - Loud Noises during Spin Cycle

This washer is JUNK!!!!!! We have the same washer (2 1/2 years old) and same problem. Tried to replace the bearing myself, no luck. So I called a repair man to come out and look at it. As soon as i told him the model number, they would'nt even come out. Very common problem for this washer. We are on our way to Sears to purchase a Kenmore.....GOOD LUCK
