A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again. If you remove the fuse, then press the meter lead sagainst the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

SOURCE: Microwave oven will not heat food

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part (such as a shorted diode)

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

While I don't have the exact manual, I have a similar manual which I have uploaded to our site. It may help you or a friend with diagnosis. It's here.

You can find the service manual here.

(Also, the owner's manual is here in case you want it)

I would suspect the magnetron thermal fuse / thermal cutout / thermostat (depending on which it has) or the oven cavity thermal fuse / thermal cutout / thermostat (depending on which it has).

To access some components, namely the oven cavity thermal device, you will need to remove the oven form the wall, in which case the installation instructions are very handy.

You can order L.G. parts from Encompass. Or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

SOURCE: whirlpool microwave model #MH1140XMQ-1. I needed

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Or if you prefer, you can order a new control circuit board for it here for $140.10 plus shipping. (Just enter the model number as MH1140XMQ-1 without the dash).

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or no bright, too. Sometimes this will similarly affect the exhaust fan operation or inside light, too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

How can I get a copy of the installation instructions for the LG MV1502W over the range microwave oven? I can find the user manual, but not the installation instructions.

Try ManualsLib here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/638625/Goldstar-Mv1502b.html . This is the Goldstar MV1502W (or MV1502B). Since the LG MV1502B manual refers to the unit as the Goldstar MV1502, this is probably the same model.

I hope this helps.

MV1502W/B It just stopped heating. It turns on.

The magnetron (the part that heats the food) may be bad or the circuitry to the magnetron may have burned out. Basically my advice is that if you have no electrical expertise, it isn't worth fixing. The magnetron if bad, costs almost as much as a new microwave. If you open it up (make sure it has been unplugged for a few hours and don't seen any obvious burnt parts (including a fuse and the diodes), then most likely the magnetron is done and a new microwave is the way to go.

Let me know how this works out for you.
