Cisco access point

Hi,
How to configure wireless access point using a laptop
Wireless technology makes connecting to the Internet possible from anywhere within the range of the network. Unfortunately, not all Internet-capable devices have wireless technology, and many still require an Ethernet port connection. If you have a laptop with a wireless card and an Internet connection, you can make the laptop a wireless access point and share that connection with other devices, whether your laptop runs a Windows or OSX operating system. Windows computers allow other devices to access the wireless network via a physical connection to the laptop, while OSX computers allow AirPort equipped devices to connect as well, creating a second wireless bubble for the network.

Instruction:
WINDOWS
1 Turn on the laptop and the device with which you will share the connection. Ensure the laptop's wireless card is turned on and you have an Internet connection.

2 Connect an Ethernet cord to the port on the laptop, and the other end to the receiving device. You need to make the connection first, or you will not be able to access the sharing options for the connection.

3 Open the list of network connections on the computer. In Windows 7 and Vista, access this list by typing "Network Connections" into the Start menu search bar and pressing "Enter." In Windows XP, click on "Network Connections" in the Network and Sharing Center section of the Control Panel.

4 Right click on the wireless connection and select "Properties," then navigate to the Sharing tab. This tab will not appear unless both devices are connected.

5 Check the box marked "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection." Click "OK" to save the changes.
OSX
1 Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences." Click the "Sharing" option, then choose "Internet Sharing."

2 Select the Airport and wireless network in the "Share your connection from:" drop-down menu.

3
Select an output format for the connection in the "To computers using:" drop-down menu. Choose "Ethernet" for a physical connection or "AirPort" for wireless broadcasting.

4
Turn on the device you wish to receive the connection. Connect the devices with an Ethernet cable, or turn on the receiving device's AirPort card and connect wirelessly.

I have a HP pavilion entertainment PC laptop. The wireless button of my laptop has turnedd off and not getting on.Please help me.

hpweb_1-2_minus.gif Wireless device is turned off or disabled The power to the wireless network and Bluetooth devices is controlled by a switch or button on most computers. It is possible to accidentally bump the button and turn off the wireless service. c02230159.jpg On most computers, there is an LED light that glows blue when the wireless device is turned on and enabled, and glows orange when off or disabled. Some newer models use different a different color scheme, see the user guide for more information. To turn on and enable the wireless device, do the following:
  1. To turn on the wireless device, simply move the switch to the on position. On some computers, the switch is actually a touch point on the panel above the keyboard.
  2. To enable the wireless device, right-click the HP Wireless Assistant (disabled) icon c02448899.jpg and select Open Wireless Assistant . Click Turn On . The HP Wireless Assistant (enabled) icon c02448900.jpg will display.
  3. You can also try pressing the fn+ F2 keys simultaneously to enable the wireless device.

How do i get my netbook to connect to the internet/ what wireless device can I get to make it work

You need to have an active internet connection with a wireless gateway to connect to the "net" wirelessly. You also need to have a wireless device installed in your laptop. The device in your laptop usually has a switch to turn it off and on. This switch maybe on the side of the laptop or may be on one of the keyboard function keys, either way, the wireless support lamp should be on or green for the wireless system to work on the laptop.
If you do not have an active wireless internet connection, you cannot connect to the net although you should be able to connect to a unsecured wireless network which is in range of your laptop ( like in a shopping centre).
If your laptop does not have a wireless device fitted, visit your local computer shop to ask what they have available and at what cost.

Where do you find a wireless card for this laptop?

It should have built-in wireless. Is there a wireless on/off switch on the right front of the case? Is there a wireless light indicator?
If your wireless switch is off, you won't be able to connect.
You can go to the device manager and look at the network devices to see if a wireless device is installed. If so, you'll just need to turn it on.
If you don't have one, you'll need to install a wireless card.

My wireless connection has gone down - internet connection is fine, AOL say I need to turn my wireless connector on but I didn't do it initially and don't know how to do it - help pls!

try a system restore first to the date when laptop was working fine with the wireless. if fails then uninstall then reinstall the wireless driver. if fails check if the wireless device still detected in the device manager. if fails then reseat the wireless card.

if you are using a wireless device thru usb then make sure the usb ports can read other usb devices just to isolate the case. if fails then do a clean installation.
