Do you hear the harddrive spin up when you power it on? If not, Then the harddrive is dead.

First try a Cold Start, shut down, unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. Any change? If no, Do a System Restore to a date before the issue.

WHAT IS A POWER INVERTER?

A power inverter is an electronic device that converts electricityfrom one form to another. Power inverters have become more popularrecently as the technology has become more efficient and much moreaffordable.

The most popular use for a power inverter isconverting battery electricity into mains electricity. For exampleconverting your car batteries' 12 volts DC into mains electricity 240Volt AC (Australia) or 110 Volt AC (USA).

WHAT POWER INVERTERS WILL HELP YOU DO
  1. Power inverters enablemains operated electrical equipment to be used even where there is nomains outlets, like in your car, caravan or even on your boat!
  2. Powerinverters bring creature comforts from home when you go camping orcaravaning allowing you to use your TV, fridge or electric shaver infact most of the normal mains powered conveniences from the home.
  3. You can charge your laptop in the car even if it doesn't happen tohave a 12 volt adapter. In fact a power inverter can be a very handygadget just to have in your car for those times you need to use a mainspowered appliance while you're away from a power socket.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A POWER INVERTER
Apartfrom looking for a good quality well priced product there are a coupleof important elements to consider when selecting your power inverter:

HOW MUCH POWER IS ENOUGH ?
Powerinverters come in a range of power capacities so selecting the rightone for you is very important. Your power inverter needs to be able toprovide sufficient power for the equipment you want to use it with.
Here is a brief check list:
  1. Check the power consumption for the device you want to power
  2. Allow an additional 20% free board
  3. Add the power for all the devices you want to run at the same time
Note also that devices with induction electric motors like an power saw mayrequire 3 to 7 times the operating power when they start.
Usingan under-powered power inverter may damage it or the appliance you aretrying to use, so be sure to check the specific wattage requirementsand operating instructions for appliances / tools to be used.

PURE SINE WAVE INVERTERS
Normal mains power is known as Alternating Current (AC) and is a sine wave shape like the black line in the drawing below
Pure sine wave (black) versus modified sine wave (red)
Atypical power inverter produces a 'modified sine wave output' like thered line in the drawing above. While this works for most appliances, light dimmers, variable speed drills, sewing machine speed controls, some laser printers etc. will not operate correctly with a modifiedsine wave power inverter.
Pure sine wave power inverters areespecially designed to provide a more accurate sine wave output and socan be used with these appliances, but unfortunately they are moreexpensive.
Check with your with appliance manufacturer or itsspecifications to confirm if you can use a conventional power inverteror will need a pure sine wave inverter.
WARRANTY
One of thegreat things about electronic equipment is there is no moving parts(although there is a fan in some models) so you can expect a longserviceable life from a power inverter.
STANDARDS
Powerinverters generate dangerous mains voltages so ensure the product youchoose is approved for use with your mains voltage and supplier.
Powerinverters can also generate electro-magnetic radiation that caninterfere with other electronic equipment such as radios transmittersetc. Check for compliance with relevant standards such as C-Tick etc

SAFETY
Powerinverters can generate potentially lethal voltages so the utmost ofcare should be exercised using them to avoid accidental electrocution.

SUMMARY
To select your power inverter carefully check the power requirements for the appliance(s) you intend to use it with.
  1. Start power - Allow up to seven times for an induction motor
  2. Operating power - Allow a 20% margin
  3. Pure or modified sine wave

It will not work with my power inverter in my truck, but it works when used on a regular 120v outlet. My power saw and my HILTI Drill work but the METABO UHE 28 Multi just will not work at all??? WHY ???

The inverter isn't putting up enough power to drive the metabo. You may be able to give it a "running start" by rotating the blade along a board while pulling the trigger. This isn't a good practice, however, as the board or the saw could slip, so be doubly careful if you try something like this. Your best choice would be to get a bigger inverter.

Best regards, (and be careful), --W/D--

Hard drives keep failing

The converter would be my first suspicion somply becasue the laptop and its associated hardware are very finaky about the power and its consistency coming into it. The converter would have to be a very good one with a modified sine wave to peoperly deliver the correct valtage and amps the laptop needs to operate without power fuctuations which will kill something as delicate as a hard drive. I would recommend only running the laptop on battery power while using it in the Lorry, then power it down to charge it, but don't operate it while under power from the converter. The only drawback to this is the cycling of the battery. The Lithium Ion batteries are only good for so many cycles....but the battery would be cheaper than constantly changing hard drives and transferring data. This procedure may shorten the battery life to 2-3 years instead of 5. Good luck.

Hi,My HP Compaq nc6000 just developed a problem of not coming on. I have checked the battery and its okay. I have blown its internal parts and it remained off. It only indicates the orange light for some...

try taking the battery out completely and see if the laptop runs of the main power from the outlet, if so then the battery may have a bad cell in it and would need to be replaced.

Primary Batteries
6-cell Lithium-Ion (4.4Ah) – standard
8-cell Lithium-Ion (4.4Ah) – optional

Power SupplyExternal 65 watt AC adapter

from looks of it the battery has gone bad

Compaq Presario v2000 notebook reduced battery life

you may try:
1) check the battery alarm at windows power managment, to set 5-10% alarm level.
2) discharge the battery to the empty then charge longer time, you need monitoring how long it charged (see charge lights change), need to change new one if charging time much less then before(less then 10-20 minutes)..
3) plug-in AC adapter monitoring charging current,
this step you need a current meter to make a series connection in the circuite, the battery is over life cycle if the current less then 500mA.

Using a 12 to 110 inverter to power it

Check that the power adapter for your laptop supports 110V.
Measure the output power with a multimeter. If its below 110VAC (Alternating Current) your not getting enough power.

Does your computer work when its is not plugged in the Inverter?

Time troubles

Your BIOS battery might be down. Becoz your board clock needs power from the board battery. So changing the battery on board will fix your problem.

Thanks
