Here's the repair manual for your laptop, including instructions for removing the screen.
You'll need a T5 screwdriver for most of the bottom screws. When I did this project Ace Hardware had the screwdriver bit for my drill for less than two dollars. Good luck!

SOURCE: Replacing lcd screen on HP dv4-1120us laptop

Here is one place I found thru google that sells your lcd for your laptop:

Price is about $89.00 before any S/H charges. I'm sure if you do some research you may find them cheaper.

When it comes to replacing the lcd on these laptops most of the time its done the same way. Unscrew the screws on the front lcd bezel and then remove the bezel so it will expose the lcd with a hinge on each side.

Remove the screws on the left hinge and also remove the screws on the right hinge.

At this point the screen will be loose. Disconnect the power connector from the bottom of the lcd that goes to the little rectangular inverter board.

There will also be a cable on the back of the lcd screen that needs to come out as well. Be gentle with the cable cause its sensitive.

At this point you can remove the bad lcd and then get ready to put the new lcd into place.

Go ahead and connect the lcd cable to the back of the lcd, don't worry it is slotted so it can only go in one way and it will kind of snap into place. Then go ahead and align the screen with the left and right hinges so you can put the screws back on so it keeps the screen in place.

Then go ahead and connect the power connector to the rectangular inverter as well. Now that you have the screen hooked up. Turn on the laptop and if you get video then you know the screen is good, turn the laptop back off and then go ahead and put the lcd front bezel back on and put the screws back into place and you should be good to go. I know this was lengthy but hope this information helps.

I have a 'top of the range' Dell XPS 15 (L521x) which I have owned for only a year and it's screen has died again.

from what i have just read as far as dell reviews, this is the norm ,i also have had friends tell me of problem like yours, and what they had to end up doing, my suggestion since dell has a bad rap with all of their products is go to another brand, asus is good, hp also, make sure if you can to take all your important data and back it up to cd or dvd disk so you can put in new laptop

I have Dell Vostro 1520 Laptop the keyboard was very dirty so I cleaned it lightly applying the glass cleaner like Fantastic the computer was turned off for couple of hours during and following this...

Try re-seating the the LCD video cable connection under the keyboard, it may have come loose.
run the LCD BIST Test by pressing D + the Power button, you should get 4 solid color screens. If no go, then the LCD has failed

A dark spot in the middle of the LCD display screen.

It can't be removed, unless its a dirt spot and then you can take a paper towel with some glass cleaner on it and then you can wipe off the screen.

Try that anyway and if it doesn't come off then you know the LCD is going bad on you and you'll have to get it replaced eventually.

Need to replace lcd screen

Sure you can, and it is pretty simple. First off, you want to remove the bezel that is between the F keys and the monitor hinges. There may be a little screw on the back side of each hinge cover, and also under the battery if the battery is below the hinges. Once you pry the bezel off, you can remove the little screws that are under the round covers on the glass side of the monitor. There should be 4 or 6 of them located on the monitor bezel. Once you remove these, you can separate the bezel on the glass side from the back of the monitor. There may be 2 or 4 screws that hold the LCD to the hinges that will have to be removed. Now you will be ready to unplug the monitor from both the motherboard and the inverter. Replace the new LCD in the reverse order.

New LCD's can be purchased from Ebay at a reasonable cost.

Broken LCD screen

Most likely, and new LCD will fix your problems. Not real expensive, and pretty easy to install.

Lcd screen connection

You can try to reseat the LCD video connector on the motherboard. Follow these steps:
1) Remove the AC power and Battery.
2) Open the LCD display all the way flat.
3) Pry up on the notch on the right side of the keyboard bezel. This is the plastic cover that has the power button on it.
4) Unplug the LCD cable and reseat it into the connector. This is the round black cable that has a little ground screw.
If this doesn’t resolve your problem then you probably need a new LCD display panel. To replace the LCD panel you have to remove the LCD section from the laptop and disassemble the LCD plastics to get to the panel.

Dell C400 will not boot using LCD screen when cold

I have seen this problem before, after booting to the external monitor go into the display settings and try setting the resolution to 1024 X 768 and the color settng to 16 bit or preferably 32 bit. If you can do this, then shut down the laptop remove the external monitor and try booting on the LCD display. BPCS
