You probably need a phillips screwdriver to Remove the screws on the bottom of the vacuum and pull the brush bar out _ the belt is wrapped around one end of that and anchored to the vacuum - put new belt on and replace cover on bottom by replacing the screws.
Eureka says size U BELT... NO!! I have tried this numerous times. I finally took off a belt from an old vac. and it works !!! dirt devil size 5 belt is the way to go!!
You need to replace the vacuum belt. Even though the belt may look fine it is probably stretched or worn and slipping on the motor shaft and that is why there is a burnt rubber smell. You can get replacement belts here:
There are two reason you could be smelling a burning smell- 1. The belt is too stretched out and needs to be replaced. This causes it to slip when the vacuum is on and will create that type smell. You can avoid stretching and having to replace the belt to often by releasing the belt after each vacuum.
2. There may be hair or other debris stuck around the rod that the belt is attached to. Can be avoided by checking after vacuuming.
http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=0&thid=810092 Generic problem for all Vacuums NEED TO REPLACE VACUUM BELT. Posted by WFLAHERTY on July 20, 2008 NEED TO REPLACE VACUUM BELT. Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. One thing when you request to replace the vacuum belt, we need to know the actual brand name and model # of the vacuum in order to give you correct information on a how to change the belt, this is just an example of an average belt change. Generally you turn the vacuum upside down to see the bottom plate, and then you remove the bottom plate by screws, clips or levers. Then you can remove the bottom plate – if not then the top cover will come off instead. Then you can remove the old belt and install the new belt. 1st. hook the new belt around the brushroll pulley first, then reinstall the brushroll, then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a hook on the end to pull or stretch the belt onto the motor pulley, then track the belt in a straight line until it is running in a straight line. then re-install the bottom plate or top cover. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. Generic problem for all Vacuums 1800 vacuum cleaner belt replacement How do you get into the belt to replace it? Not knowing the brand name of the vacuum other than the 1800 vacuum cleaner belt replacement, normally the belt is located @ the bottom the vacuum attached to the brushroll and is held on by either screws, clips, or some even snap on – but mostly they use some type of screws to open the area to replace the belt, if needed contact the company website, include the brand name and the model number and request a schematic of the vacuum and that will give you an exploded view of how the vacuum assm goes together and also shows the belt replacement and how that is connected. http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/vacuum-cleaner/typhoon-1800-upright-vacuum-cleaner/1021772/
