Question about Desa International Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a Desa EFP33PR. The pilot will light in both manual and auto however the main gas will not light. The flame is perfectly blue and the thermocouple is directly in the flame. I am assuming either the thermocouple or the wire to the thermocouple is bad. I cannot seem to find a direct replacement online. I see very similar replacement parts online but none exact. Any suggestions? Also I have made sure all the vent holes are clean and the thermocouple is clean as well.

I wish it were that easy. Desa went bankrupt in 2008. I'm going to try calling / going by a local fireplace shop and see if they can help me. I can easily replace the part if I can find it.

SOURCE: Radiant Flame Heater by DESA International pilot

You need to replace the pilot light. This is an easy replacement, it goes from your gas control valve to its place in the heater. You can try "taping" the dust out or pulling it out and blowing it clear. This will fix your pilot light problem.

If the pilot gets the least bit of dust in the safety will mimmick a low oxygen situation and cause the heater to shut down. The fix is easy. You must blow out the pilot safety device. More HERE

That hole should only be a problem, if a strong draft comes thru and blows the pilot out. But that hole may also be for match lighting the pilot in an emergency. The older models like yours, had that feature. Check it closely, before you decide to block off the hole.

Hope this helped you.

I have a VC Wonderfire model 2610. The pilot flame is perfect blue on both sides... however, when I hit the switch for the main burner to come on...the pilot goes out... any ideas ???

You may have moved the safety sensor or pilot flame tip. The pilot light heats a wire. The wire is the safety sensor. The wire has to be clean and in the pilot flame near the flame tip.

Cannot get gas to flow to pilot flame with main valve parallel to gas pipe. Is there something I must push to make gas flow to the pilot flame pipe?

you said, in effect: Cannot get gas to light the pilot flame even though manual supply valve is open. Is there something I must push to light [ignite] the pilot? Permalink
The gas supply valve is open, and the pilot gas cutoff valve is open but [it seems like] gas will not flow to the pilot flame because it will not light when I supply a match or lighter flame. I remember there is a button or something I need to press...but where it it? I cannot find it.

It sound like you may need to clean the pilot on the fireplace and then reseat the thermocouple.

Pilot doesn't stay light

A common problem with gas logs is a dirty pilot orifice that causes a lazy yellow pilot flame. So when the burners cycles off, the additional heat from the main burners no longer helps heat the thermocouple, so it cools off enough for the 100% safety cut-off to shut it all down. Take a look and see what that pilot flame looks like. It should be a stiff blue flame impinging on the thermocouple making it red hot. Here's a quick solution for this issue. Shut it all down. Let it all cool off. Remove the logs as necessary to access the pilot assembly and using a can of compressed air with an attached straw (like you use for cleaning computer keyboards), blow out the pilot orifice. It could also be a spider web, so check it out with a flashlight too. I hope this resolves your problem. Let us know if it worked or if you need more assistance.

My propane fireplace pilot light wont stay lighted help

Most gas valves have a flame sensor, which is a metal bulb at the end of a wire. The pilot light heats this bulb, and the valve stays open because there's a flame. If the flame has been out, you'll need to hold down the pilot light button for as much as two minutes after lighting the flame to allow the flame to heat the flame sensor up enough to keep supplying gas when you release the button.

Pilot light won't light on ventless fireplace

Ventless Gas logs, Vanguard, VS30PR. Propane gas
Pilot light stays lit various times, sometimes for several days then other times for a few minutes. Lights best when temp outside is below freezing. Pilot flame appears to receive too much air. How do you adjust the pilot flame? Is this done using two screws marked A & E? Do you have suggestions?
Thanks,
Ed

I HAVE A DESA LP VENTLESS FIREPLACE AND THE PILOT WILL NOT STAY LIT

the heater makes use of a millivolt generator which generates a small dc voltage (500-750mv) that is applied to the pilot valve of your main gas valve. when you light your pilot, the flame bathes the generator with a flame. after a delay you release the pilot button. if the generator is working, the pilot valve will stay lit. if the generator is not working the flame will go out as soon as you release the pilot button. change the generator.

Desa TD 104 Patio Gas heater

Sounds like you may not be getting enough gas up to the main burner. Bugs, such as spiders, love to make homes out of the main supply lines. Does your pilot light burn blue, and strong? If not, it may need to be cleared of the obstruction. Also, when opening the the gas tank valve, are you opening it slowly?
