At this age, it's time for a good checkup. Ask around for a mechanic with a good reputation. He will probably want to replace vacuum lines, filters, and do a full tuneup. Also the transmission needs to be checked, hopefully he can do that too.
A good tuneup can cost a couple of hundred dollars, it takes time to check all that stuff. Some belts are expensive, and installing them is difficult. You don't want old belts to fail, that's even worse.

Clean the throttle body and the idle air control motor. Pull the Idle motor and clean it with a brush and pick. Use brake clean. Get as much black/carbon off of it as you can.

96 prizm stalling at stops. sputtering when accelerating and especialy when not accelerating. If I give it alot of gas it doesn't sputter or jump.

Sounds like your Idle Air Control valve is bad. The IAC valve controls the engine idle speed. The valve is located on the side of the throttle body. This valve allows the necessary amount of air, as determined by the (PCM) and controlled by a duty cycle signal, to bypass the throttle plate in order to maintain the proper idle speed. Good luck!

My 1998 Jeep Cherokee will start but will not shift out of first gear. Any solutions?

Is the check engine light on? Does the speedo work? Probaly is either a bad output speed sensor on the trans tail hosing or a bad govenor pressure solenoid and /or pressure sensor on the valve body. Need to have it scanned. Output rpms should be zero at a stop and increase with road speed . Govenor pressure should be within 3 psi of desired govenor pressure . Desired govenor pressure should match road road speed.I would recomend replace the sensor and solenoid as a pair. Please vote and good luck!

I want to know how to use my cruise control in my 1994 Toyota pickup. It has all the buttons and the capability but the words are scratched off and i don't have a manual.

Generally... There is ON/OFF - SET - ACCELERATE/RESUME, COAST/DECELERATE. Cruise is available at speeds above 35mph or so. Sometimes there is no main on/off. Cruise on a turn signal stem has a button that pushes in on the end, push when at desired speed. resume/accelerate slides to right, is spring loaded and return left when released. the same lever when slid left is coast/decelerate. Momentarily sliding accelerate and releasing increases crusing speed by a couple mph. If brakes are used cruise disengages, sliding resume returns you to cruise speed after braking. Coast/decelerate disengages cruise, when at desired lower speed hit set. On some, hitting set not needed, when coast is released speed is maintained. Variations may be up/ down instead or may be steering wheel face mounted. Please rate answer. Duct tape is like the force, it has a dark side.. a light side.. and holds the universe together!
