I turn on the desktop, I get a black screen with no beeps. the yellow light is also on in the front

I have tried removing the cmos battery, the ram, still nothing. I took the hard drive out, and put in another desktop I haven't booted to it yet, but I can see the windows files, and programs. they are recoverable

SOURCE: [Ithr]checkpoint failure dell 8400 dimension

What can cause this error?

Well, this is the problem since quite a variety of problems can trigger the error.

1: the bios can be malfunctioning (a bios reset or flash can give a solution)
2: the cpu can be malfunctioning (this requires a new cpu)
3: the cpu socket can be failing (this requires a new mb)
4: the problem can be with bad usb sockets
5: even a bad uplink to a usb hub can cause this error to appear.
Did you change your monitor lately? I would chase down the USB things first...that and the monitor seem to trip the trigger...
Hope this get you started- I think you were right on target with the flash of the BIOS-try it again using the BIOS flash downloaded from the dell site...and to run the chipset again...it just might
Good luck my friend, hope this helps, please leave rating, thank you kindly

Desktop turns on , doesnt beep, black screen, with orange light in front. instead of green

So if I understand you correctly when you turn it on you get the oraange light on the front, the sound of the fans turning but no beep and no video output?

If this is correct then you likely have a POST problem (Power On Self Test), the beep you normally hear is conformation that the computer has passed the POST correctly - if you no longer have the POST beep then I suggest you look up your motherboard manual for more info but the basic check is to confirm all the cables and drives are well connected, the RAM is fully and correctly inserted. If you have recently added any new devices to your computer (graphics card or RAM etc) then remove this and see if the POST problem goes away. You may also find in your motherboard manual something labeled CMOS Clear - this will be a jumper (little pins sticking out) of the motherboard which is essentially a reset for the BIOS which may help rule out an issue in the BIOS config.

Good luck!

MyGateway 560 GE desktop powers on but monitor is black it also beeps

How many beeps do you hear are they long beeps or short beeps ?
or long beeps and short beeps ?

The beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the RAM , all the memory in the RAM is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains active until turned off. WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Make sure that your RAM modules and Cmos battery are securely seated on some motherboards Cmos batteries are soldered in. Test all power and data leads that attach from Motherboard to your Hard Drive SATA Make sure they have a secure dust free connections.
Check the graphics card is seated properly with no dust in the socket you might have to remove it to check for dust reinstall it. Restart your computer the found new hardware wizard should activate.

Hope this helps.

What's your problem?toshiba satellite l555 s7916 wil not boot

Try Resetting the CMOS on your Motherboard.
Turn off the Laptop and unplug it
Remove the battery
undo the RAM cover
Remove the RAM
plug the laptop into the power
Turn the PC on and listen for some beeping noises
If you hear the beeping noises turn the laptop back off
Unplug the charger
Replace the RAM into the RAM slots
Replace the the battery
Plug in the laptop and power it up.

if you get video output, that's Great, if not, it's possible that you have a faulty screen

Monitor light blinks but no pic when booted up

i can try to help you, do you hear the boot beep sound? if you are not able to hear the beep sound then i suggest you to open the machine and check with the cmos battery if it is working or no. if your cmos battery is working then have a check with Power supply. if the power supply working then there might be a problem with your motherboard or cpu. now let me talk about checking the ram. if you are able to remove the ram module remove it and see if u can hear a long beep sound if you are able to hear it try to clean the ram contacts with eraser and then try installing it. i think this might help you

Hp motherboard startup problem!!

hmmm my sussgestion in yourr case is that, don't attach all things at once. do the following step bye step.

Step 1). Attach SMPS (power supply to the board), Front Panel Connectio, and an in built speaker and CPU (don't add RAM, HDD, FDD, VGA Card or any thing els)

Power on and watch/Listen carefully:

Case 1: if you can hear a long beep, then your CPU and board is OK

Case 2: No beep means CPU or board is faulty. Try to Reconnect CPU again and do step 1.

Step 2) Now power off and add RAM only.

Power on and watch/Listen carefully.

Case 1: if you can hear the ok beep it means till now your RAM is Ok
otherwise clean your RAM connection and add it again.

Further you can add your VGA, HDD CD-ROM/DVD, PCI Devices etc. and easily short-out your problem.
For your help here is picture of general moherboard with connection details. 86c6af2.jpg
Thanks
