If the tie rod end has been changed, you will need to adjust the toe in by dropping the tie rod end from its connection to arm. Not the steering rod. Tighten or loosen the tie rod end on the steering rod until there is a slight toe in. Re install the tie rod end into the steering rod. If there is too much toe in, the wheels will spread when in reverse and steering is impossible. It may take several attempts to set the toe in properly. When proper adjustment is met, steering will be easier or as it should be.

Problem 2 is probably a belt slipping or a pulley loose somewhere.Problem 1 .........is the tie rod adjustable? If the tie rods are adjustable, put steering wheel where it's supposed to be when straight, then adjust tie rods so that each wheel is pointed straight ahead. There should be a lock nut that needs to be loosened, then turn the tie rod end in or out and tighten lock nut. Back to problem 2....if it isn't the belt or pulley, it may not be an easy fix.Sometimes over time, belts stretch and get loose, or a set screw in a pulley can work loose, and cause the pulley to slip on the shaft. If it is hydraulic, it might be low on fluid.. I don't know for sure as I am not a big fan of Craftsman lawn tractors. Good luck

Hit fence and right front tire is towing out. how do you get the alignment right?

kevin plumag, you may have bent the tie rod. It's an easy fix: each end of the tie rod connects to the axle, keeping the wheels at the right distance. Each end of the tie rod has a small cotter pin. Remove the cotter pin (a washer will fall off), lift out the bent tie rod, and put a new one back in, reinstalling the washer and cotter pin on each end.If your tie rod is straight, something else is wrong (which is why I'm searching the boards!). You can order a tie rod from Sears; check your manual for the part number.

Front wheels on craftsman lawn tractor are in two different directions after hitting fence. The one that hit the fence is in a 45 degree angle and the other is straight, how can I realign these.

It depends on if you just bent the tie rod (the rod that goes between the wheels) or if you bent the spindle on the wheel that hit. Look under the front and see if the tie rod is straight. If not, take it off and straightened it. If it is straight, you probably bent the wheel spindle. But also check the axle on the end that hit to see if it is twisted.
