The P5000 doesnt appear as a drive in the windows my computer section for its initial connection. It worked OK on my laptop but not on my desktop unit which has all the image software such as PS CS2

I have the same problem. My Epson P-5000 is not recognized by my computer running on Windows Vista. Another computer with Windows XP does recognize it. The Vista machine will see the two memory card drives, but not the viewer itself. I just spent 30 frustrating minutes talking to Epson support to no avail. Their answer? I'm supposed to call Microsoft. Unbelievable!

After two different calls and a couple of hours on the phone with Epson, my problem had a very simple solution. Vista had not assigned a drive letter to the P-5000. I simply had to assign a drive letter and it's now working fine.
By the way, the first call to Epson ended with their Level 1 support guy telling me I needed to call Microsoft! Needless to I wasn't happy with that answer and let him know it. :D
