Question about Epson P-5000 Digital Media Player

1 Answer

Wont connect to PC

The P5000 doesnt appear as a drive in the windows my computer section for its initial connection. It worked OK on my laptop but not on my desktop unit which has all the image software such as PS CS2

I have the same problem. My Epson P-5000 is not recognized by my computer running on Windows Vista. Another computer with Windows XP does recognize it. The Vista machine will see the two memory card drives, but not the viewer itself. I just spent 30 frustrating minutes talking to Epson support to no avail. Their answer? I'm supposed to call Microsoft. Unbelievable!

After two different calls and a couple of hours on the phone with Epson, my problem had a very simple solution. Vista had not assigned a drive letter to the P-5000. I simply had to assign a drive letter and it's now working fine.

By the way, the first call to Epson ended with their Level 1 support guy telling me I needed to call Microsoft! Needless to I wasn't happy with that answer and let him know it. :D

My glyph harddrive will not be recognized by my computer on my windows xp operating system. when I plug the harddrive in it says a new device was connected but i can't save anything to it and it does not...

In the Disk Management section, right click on it, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths. Then assign it a free letter for it to pop up as. Like F, G, H or something. Then Click OK.

What I believe happened was that it was formatted, and the computer did not automatically set aide a letter drive for it, so you need to do it manually. It shouldn't give you any more problems from there now.

Please rate :-)

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Canon ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.

My cd drive has diapeared

First, if the CD drive uses an expansion bay on the laptop, remove it (with the power off) and reinsert it to make sure it is seated correctly. Power on the system, enter the BIOS setup program and check to see if it has been recognized again. If it is not being recognized here, the drive is defective and needs to be replaced. If the drive appears in BIOS, allow the computer to boot and check to see that the drive is appearing under My Computer. If not, open the Device Manager, click on the View menu and make sure that Show hidden devices is checked. Open the CD/DVD-ROM Drives section. You should see an entry for your disc drive and it may be dimmed. Right-clicking and selecting Properties from the context menu will probably indicate that the device is not currently connected to the computer (Code 45). If so, right-click on the computer name and select Scan for hardware changes in the context menu. If this does not detect and initialize the drive properly, the device is probably defective and needs replacement.

Computer not detecting

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

THEN, do the "Repair" in the Philips Device Manager

.Turn on the PC. When the HP/Compaq logo screen appears, press the F1 key repeatedly until the BIOS Setup screen appears (on some models this key press may different, F2 or Del)
2.Use the Left and Right Arrow keys to select Main.
3.The hardware-identifying name should appear next to Secondary Master, Secondary Slave, or Primary Slave.
If the name for the drive exists, skip to Step 3. Otherwise, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Reseating cables

If a drive name does not appear for each drive and None is listed in the BIOS, use these steps to open the computer case and reseat the drive cables. Work on a hard flat surface over a non-carpeted floor.

1.Turn off the computer, unplug all cords from the PC, and then press the Power button on the front of the PC for five seconds.
2.Remove the side panel.
3.Remove both the IDE ribbon cable and the power cable from the back of the CD drive.
•If the drive name appears in the Primary IDE section or the hard drive name is now missing, the IDE cable is bad or the drive settings are wrong. Replace the IDE cable and connect it according to the drive jumper settings . That is, if the small rectangular connector (the jumper) on the drive is set to MS (Master), connect the master end of the IDE cable into the back of the drive. If the jumper is set to SL (Slave), use the slave connector on the cable. If the drive is set to CS (Cable Select), you can connect using either connector on the cable.

Step 3: Removing Drive in Device Manager
Remove the drive name from Device Manager:
4.Close the Properties window and select the CD drive name.
5.Click the Uninstall or Remove button (in Windows XP this is the square button with a red X).
6.Click Yes or OK to remove the CD listing. Do not restart the PC.
7.Close Device Manager.
8.If your PC has Windows XP, perform the next step to clear the registry filters without restarting the PC.
Clearing the registry filters in XP
Click Start, Run, and type the following into the Open field: regedit
Click OK. The registry editor appears.
In Windows XP, click File, Export, type a filename that is easy for you to remember, and click Save.
In Windows 2000, click Registry, Export Registry File, type a filename that's easy for you to remember, and click Save.
A copy of the registry has saved for back-up purposes.

Click the plus sign (+) next to the following items in the list:
•HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
•SYSTEM
•CurrentControlSet (or the current control set with lowest number if that is all that is listed)
•Control
•Class
Select 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318.
Select UpperFilter in the right window and press the Delete key.
Confirm the deletion by clicking Yes.
Select LowerFilters in the right window and press the Delete key.
Confirm the deletion by clicking Yes.
Delete all other UpperFilter and LowerFilter values within the 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 key.
...........
