Question about Dynex DX-L42-10A 42 in. LCD TV
I use direct tv, I slide direct controller to "tv", go to settings, go to captions and have tried "captions 1-4" . every selection still keeps captions in center of screen

Closed caption is an extra for the TV tuner you have it may not be on the set for HD ie: your set is now recieveing it's picture from the cable box and not your TV tuner probab;y by scart or SVHS cable , and the equipment you have may not have Closed Caption capability check with your network supplier ..... PS will it work if you go back to normal tv I think it might .? and if it does case proved ..

Do you have a cable or satellite box connected to the TV? If so the box is probably what is providing the Closed Caption and not the TV.

Try the basic "re-boot" most digital devices respond to - pull their AC supply plug out for 10 minutes, reconnect, re-setup if asked to and problem may well have been sorted.
