Memory is a fickle thing. Some brands do not work in some motherboards. Mismatching brands often will not work. Even though the board may support multiple memory speeds, mixing unlike speeds almost never works. Occasionally, a RAM slot is defective and cannot be used.

SOURCE: Can't Install RAM in DDR2 and DDR3 DIMM slots

You cannot use DDR and DDR2 ram at the same time, because its always been like that (ie, no SD and DDR, or SD and RIMM)

What you should do is switch to all DDR2 sticks.

SOURCE: Hello My ASUS K8V-MX Motherboard has only two memory slot

Look into you're manual, go to pages 1-11 & 1-12.
The memory listed here has been tested by Asus to work correctly in the K8V-MX motherboard. In order for you to reach 2GB memory you will need DS memory. Double sided. This means there is 512MG on each side of a single DIMM, hence 2x1x 512MB DIMM equals 1GB. So you will need 4x 512MB to raxhl a total memory of 2GB. Please stay within the recommended memory listed on the Qualified Vendor List (QVL).
Simptronics memory it not on the QVL list. From time to time some memory not one the list may still function. This is not one of those times.

Done it myself, RAM should have booted up after reinstalling the RAM.
Need to check very close on the RAM slots and make sure the the one slot on the btton of the RAM stick is directly down into the slot guide as can be forced but end clip would not set.

If this does not solve your problem I would suggest resetting the CMOS of your computer as it may have locked it out, CMOS finds all devices installed on the mainboard and addresses them to prepare for boot.

I am sending you a link to the HP support manual page for your review for how to clear the bios and boot back up to reset the CMOS up again. You might have reset your time and Date.

Let me know if good to go or if you still cannot boot or have the "Orange" led.

Please go to the HP link below by coping and pasteing into your web browser. The LED listing and CMOS resetting is on page #2 on the right side of the Adobe PDF document..

Flashing cursor on inspiron 5150

I assume the power LED is on when you boot up the laptop and the power adapter is OK.
If I understand you, the RAM module is in memory slot A and not in slot B. If not the RAM module needs to be in slot A.
When a laptop doesn't the RAM module may only needs re-seating or the RAM module is faulty.
Re-seat the RAM module, and if this then take the RAM module and get it tested at your friendly computer shop.

The black rectangular chips on the side, or sides, of the ram module are DRAM chips. Dynamic Random Access Memory.

('Chip' is slang term to denote IC, or Integrated Circuit)

Each Dram chip is of a specific size, (or can be said as Amount)
There are manufacturers who make the Dram chips, and then the chips are used by the ram memory manufacturer.

Doesn't matter how the Dram chips are arranged. The ram memory manufacturer could put them all of one side, if they designed it that way.

1.Your motherboard will support, (Use), DDR at 333Mhz, or DDR at 400MegaHertz.
(PC2700 and PC3200, respectively)

2.The ram memory module must use 2.5 Volts.
(JEDEC has set the voltage standard for DDR Sdram at 2.5 Volts, so no worries here. Only time to check this, is if you have some High performance ram, that may be set to use a higher voltage)

3.It must be Non-ECC ram, and Unbuffered.

4.Cas Latency should be 2.5 to 3.0 (Ram Timings)

Short solution?

Computer off, and unplugged from power. TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case to relieve your body of Static.

Handle the ram 'sticks' by the body of the stick, and refrain from touching the gold plated contact pins, on the bottom.

If the 512MB stick is in SLOT 1, remove it. Install the 1GB stick in Slot 1. Make SURE it is seated!

(Slot 1, is the ram memory slot that is closest to the Processor. It is the first ram memory slot that the Processor reads)

Leave the computer case open. (Refrain from putting your hands in while the computer is plugged into power)

Plug the computer into power. Wait 30 seconds. Turn the computer on.

Computer boots up? (Starts)
Okay.
Unplug from power. Install the 512MB stick in Slot 2.
Plug into power, wait 30 seconds. Turn the computer on.
Computer boots up?
You're good to go.

1GB ram memory stick is in Slot 1, and the computer does not boot up?
Incompatible ram memory. Remove it. Reinstall the original 512MB stick in Slot 1.

Hi four short beep codes generally means faulty ram in the first position. If the old RAM was working fine, then try using it in the other slot and see what happens. You may have damaged a pin installing the RAM, if it works in the other slot, remove it and inspect the damaged slot with a magnifying glass and see if you can spot a bent or missing pin.

Let me know how you make out,

Chris

2350 added ram now computor will not boot

a couple things.

#1 Before you started inserting and removing RAM, did you have the power disconnected? Did you blead the stored power in the motherboard by holding the power button after unplugging? Not having power removed from the system can damage the RAM and possibly the slot.

#2 When inserting RAM, it is important to have the locking levers spread, align the keyways in the Memory slots, then when inserting the module, press down FIRMLY with both thumbs till the locking levers snap up and in to locked position without touching the levers. (If you pull the levers up, the RAM doesn't seat in the slot)

#3 when you power on, on the back of the tower are 4 LEDs marked ABCD they should flash on then off in difference sequences during post, then end with all for solid green. If some are amber then there is a HW problem ans you need to post the LED pattern (AAGG for example is a memory problem)

Most likely seating the RAM properly will solve the issue.

Computer keeps cycling off and on

Load defaults on the bios screen, save and exit, reboot. see if it recognizes your newly installed ram. also if you have 4 memory slots, try using different configuration on the placement of the ram modules. Like if you have four memory slots trying, try using the first and 2nd slot, if no go then try using the 1st and 3rd slot and also remember to always load bios deafaults everytime you reconfigure the ram placement or size.
