Question about Sony Dual-Alarm AM/FM Clock Radio with Automatic Time Set

1 Answer

Sony XDR-C705DAB wont set time

The clock radio is plugged in and switched on. The time display shows a flashing 12.00 AM and a caption below shows "setting time" which it should do automatically according to the manual. However, the time does not set and the display continues to flash. The time on the display continues to progress from 12.00AM with a flashing display and the caption "setting time" still displayed. never set

I tried to press all buttons at once but thought this is silly as there are so many buttons but after having done that a combination of display, menu and the radio tuning up arrow seemed to do the trick. So cannot say what exactly was effective but trial and error eventually worked.

SOURCE: cant set the time on my Sony ICF-C318 digital clock

thank you all for giving me your solutions, but i managed to fix the clock myself when my dog accidentally stepped on it (which isn't exactly a great solution so don't try it if you have the same problem as me). Actually it turns out my clock was missing one of the buttons for adjusting the time when I looked at the box it came in, but somehow stepping on it seemed to fix it. Thank you very much though for all your help....if I ever have troubles with anything else I'll know where to post my problem!

thanks again

My Sony radio XDR-S55DAB has completely stopped working. Initially all that showed on the display unit was the symbol for a dead battery but this also appeared when it was mains connected. I have pressed...

I have noticed exactly the same issue with my Sony XDR-S55DAB

Even if it has batteries installed but only working off mains electricity, after several months it will not start when the power button is pressed and I have to replace the batteries.

The radio will work again if you just replace the batteries with fresh ones

Try this next time the batteries go flat; disconnect the radio from the mains, replace the batteries with fresh ones, and leave for a couple of minutes (you do not have to switch on!).

You can remove the batteries if you like then reconnect the mains cable and press ON

If your radio behaves exactly the same as mine, it will spring into life so how come?

In the "olden days" ie pre-2000, small portable radios often had a physical switch which connected and disconnected the power supply be it battery or mains.

Nowadays, many radios don't have a "proper" switch, but a "function" button - press it on, and the radio operates, press it again and the radio stops - to enable this, a very small amount of charge is required to keep the central "brain" alive in order to notice this, and in the case of the Sony XDR-S55DAB, this only seems to be supplied by the battery, not the mains adapter.

My advice is simply keep a spare set of batteries handy and replace them whenever your radio wont turn on. Using the mains adapter allows the batteries to lastfar longer than using the batteries on their own.

It is completely counter-intuitive that a "battery/mains" radio needs batteries to work off the mains, but this is the only design fault can find in an otherwise excellent radio.

I have a c218 and i can't set time

Hold the 'Clock' button until the display flashes. It will first show the year, next press on 'Clock' with show the month, then the day, then the time. Use + and - to set your time and press 'Clock' again.

Don't expect this clock to set the time by itself. It is not an atomic clock.

Set the time

Apparently, you need to be a rocket scientist to set the time on this radio. Check the video at the link below. The lady says it's the most difficult clock radio she has ever used. Other than that, here's the time set from the instruction manual, and I quote from this site:

1. Press the "set" button, the ":" will flash on the display
2. Press "REV" or "FWD" to set the time
3. AM or PM icon will show beside the time.

TIP No icon will be flashing if all selectors are set. If you see any icon flashing on the display, press the SET button repeatedly to confirm everything is set correctly.

SONY XDR-S55DAB Stack at display : DAB WAIT

Solution seems to be do not buy small Sony DABs, or any small ones. I have the XDR-S56DBP and have same problem. Was also cursed with 'no ensemble' error. Even worse than the Pure one I had before which lost all of the DAB facility and now only functions as an FM radio. I had a good medium sized Roberts one, but power cable split and I can't find a suitable replacement.
