Question about Dell Precision M6300 Notebook

Open Question

M6300 power light comes on but it won't boot,

The laptop was working fine the night before, I just closed it down through windows and had this when I tried to power up the next morning, the power light comes on but it won't boot, the screen remains black, it tries the hard disk then the cd rom but after 5 secs nothing happens, after that it just sits there with the power light on, I tried pressing the media direct button + d on the keyboard and got lots of different colour screens but that is the only sign of life it has shown, I changed the memory modules with known working ones, no effect in it's behavior. I suspect it's the bios on the motherboard, I hope I'm wrong and it's something less pricey to get working again.

SOURCE: Hang at startup (BIOS)

Yes laptops can work without battery.
If the laptop is hanging on Dell logo and entering into BIOS then normally it is HDD issue but you have already checked without HDD so might be it is RAM or Board issue.
You can check with PC 133.
Please check your Laptop with minimal boot once (by removing all external hardwares like modem,tv tuner or graphics if any) and if you are geting the display one of the devices is causing the issue whch could be diagnosed by connecting one by one.

Dell Precision M6300 turns on and then nothing happens.

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.

( Dell xps m1530 laptop ) Monitor blank, powers up but screen won't come on.

It ISN'T the LCD screen. Since you diagnosed with an external VGA monitor, you now know the problem is the laptop.

(When you connect an external VGA monitor to a laptop, you are bypassing the Video Cable, and LCD screen. You are connected directly to the laptop )

The basic Windows files aren't being found. The boot files. This may mean a bad Harddrive.

Do you have the Restoration CD Disk? Laptop on insert it into the optical drive tray, close the tray.
When asked choose - Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

If a checkdisk is done, you have bad sectors on the harddrive.
There IS a special procedure in replacing a harddrive.

Holding down the Func key while powering up, Num lock and Scroll lock flash, caps lock on steady. No Post. Help

If your laptop won't run the diagnostics ( Holding down the Func key while powering up ) then you need to try and isolate the problem. Something is preventing the laptop from performing POST ( power-on self diagnostics ). Try removing the hard disk drive, memory modules, external USB devices.

Toshiba Satellite C655-S5082. Won't power on. Worked fine last night. Today it won't turn on. Plug it it and no power light. With power cord plugged in when I push the power button the light for...

Take out the AC power jack and then remove the laptop battery. Plug AC power back in and see if the laptop will turn on. If it turns on let it boot the operating system and then shut down as normal, remove the power cord and reinsert the battery and again see if it will switch on. If it does then there has been a glitch with the battery. If it doesn't then there is a problem with the battery.

If the laptop won't switch on either with or without the battery then there is a possibility that the motherboard has developed a problem.

Good luck.

M6300, When I push the power botton, the green power light lights up, and for a second the next light lights up ( i think the hard drive light) then goes out to stay out. screen stays black no boot up...

Try taking the battery out of the machine and leave it hooked to the AC power and try it again. It may be that your battery is bad and that is stopping it from booting up.

My curser has frozen

Press your Windows button to get back to your start menu and close it down from there. If it won't close down from there press CTL ALT and DEL all together just the once and it should take you to a different screen that will allow you to shut down or if all else fails hold the power key down until it closes.
Re boot and allow windows to go to protect mode. When the hard drive light has finished flashing, close it down again. Next time you boot it should be fine.
Hope that helps.

The cable for the back light inverter board may have come off on the mother board side or on the screen side.

2) Failed inverter board.
3) Failed lamp.
