KitchenAid fridge freezer leaks water KBFS20EVMS

Intermittently leaks water from freezer compartment - perhaps there is a freezer element de-icing program which is flushing ice on the freezer element which has acculmulated due to a slow leak ?

SOURCE: drain pan leaking?

there is a drip pan located underneath you ref but most likely your prob is a plugged drain line coming from the freezer. when you ref goes into automatic def the water doesnt run out into the drip pan but instead onto your floor..

you can clean the drain line by removing the rear cover in the freezer compartment and using hot water to thaw the drain below the evap coil.

I had two (2) broken wires in the harness. I don't think you actually have to take the door off. It may be a little cramped working, but I think it can be done. Once you take off the bottom grill, find the end of the harness next to the water filter and unplug the white plug. Just below that is a ground wire. Remove the screw and take the green wire off. Then, next to that is a white "c-clip" holding the harness against the bottom of the refrigerator. Remove that clamp and you should have enough "play" to work on the harness. (It is probably a pain in the #*@ to remove the entire harness because it runs into a hole in the bottom of the door and then up through the door itself) You'll have to cut away the black mesh sleeve over the harness. I cut it with a pair of wire cutters as close to where the harness goes into the door as possible. There may also be a bit of black electrical tape at the end of the mesh closest to the white plug. Remove that, and you should be able to slide the mesh sleeve off, over the plug. This should reveal the broken wires. I just took some 12 gauge braided wire and cut a couple of pieces

SOURCE: Kitchenaid Icemaker leaking in big drips on front of freezer bins

Either the inlet valve is stuck or the icemaker solenoid is shored.

Most likely the second one.

Water is building up on bottom of fridge

If you have water build-up on the floor of the food compartment, or ice buildup on the floor of the freezer compartment, you are probably suffering from either a frost problem or from a clogged defrost drain.

Remove everything from your freezer, including all food and any shelves. Do not remove the icemaker (if installed.)
Look at and feel the panel covering the bottom or back of the freezer compartment. Is it thick with frost?
On top freezer models, are the holes in the top of the food compartment that lead to the evaporator choked with ice?
Is there ice forming on, or lots of water on the ceiling of the food compartment?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, there's probably a defrost problem.
If you suspect a defrost problem, first remove any icemaker that may be installed. You will see a removable panel covering the entire back or bottom of your freezer compartment. There may be 6 to 10 or more screws holding it on. In some units there is a light socket attached to the panel; you'll see this arrangement most often in side-by-sides.

If you start to get an unusual buildup of ice in one particular spot in your freezer, especially beneath the icemaker, check for water leaks.
Water leaking onto the kitchen floor not traceable to one of the problems in Chapters 4 or 6 may be from a leak in the icemaker or door dispenser water system. Icemakers have a water solenoid valve mounted on the back of the fridge, usually behind the back bottom panel, and a water tube that leads straight up the back of the fridge to the icemaker. Door dispensers have a similar water solenoid valve with a water tube that leads beneath the fridge and into the door through a hollow hinge. If your fridge has both features, it's usually a dual water solenoid valve. It can be simple or not-so-simple to fix, but basically it's just a plumbing job.

Intermittant ice making

When you see this happen can you feel the bottom of the ice maker to see if hot? What is the correct model number? I am trying to understand if it is the ice maker heating element is stuck on while heating the ice maker to release the cubes or if the water control valve is allowing the water to come in through the fill tube like a leaking faucet. Freezer door leaking

I thought my leak was also coming from a line but nope - it's the black drain grommet that fits over the drain located just above the compressor in the back bottom of the unit. I had to use a blow dryer inside the freezer section to unthought the ice that was behind the freezer back wall. No need to take the freezer inside back plate off just use a blow dryer to melt the ice where the grille is located inside the freezer. You do have to take the back plate off where the water lines go into the bottom of the fridge. Once the back plate is off you then disconnect a yello and Orange plug that goes to the water line selinoid valve. Then prop up the back plate with the water lines still attached so you can access the black grommet on the drain. You must also disconnect the black drain tube from the water tray. Be careful not to break it as there is a small push clip that must be pushed in while you pull up. Once it's off then take the black grommet off of the drain that is just above the compressor. Mine was plugged with lint and sticky - wash throughly and then take a small pick or screw driver and insert it in the drain - once I did this about 2 cups of water came out so be prepared with a cup to keep it off the wires right below the drain. Clean up the water in the freezer and then reverse wha thou took off and then plug the fridge back in - you just saved $150 on appliance house call. Bad design for a high end fridge - my sears in the garage is 20 years old and not one problem. Cold beer on hand. Hope this helps!

Water is dripping into fridge compartment from section separating fridge and freezer compartments, otherwise, both seem to be working fine. unit was new in 2001, model ET21PK.

Hello,

That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the center

Good luck

I hope this helps

My refridge is leaking a little bit out the bottom .No hose lines are leaking. What could it be?

as a general rule for refrigerators with top freezer compartments, if you have water
leaking under fridge it usually is the drain line exiting the freezer compartment.
This is accessed by removing (usually 4) screws on the back panel and pulling
the panel forward and unplugging the fan, sometimes it is necessary to remove the
fan seperately and carefully unplug the fan.
in the center there will be a hole exiting the freezer, sometimes with an aluminum
wire in it to help keep the hole de iced. clean this hole out and squirt a turkey
baster or two of hot water in to check drainage. listen for the trickle under the fridge.
Remember to pull crisper drawers out and remove water as it has accumulated below.
If the temp control assembly
goes all the way to the back of the fridge, it may also have a
built in cup which clogs. It detaches by removing 4 screws and pull forward and
down then unplug the unit and slide out. Make sure to unplug unit before servicing.

I have a GE profile performer fridge ,with freezer on bottom there is water and ice build up at back of compartment, almost looks like a drain usually leaks out on floor in front of freezer compartment.

drain is frozen up. unplug and leave bottom door open for 24 hours and may be ok. Only alternative is to remove the bottom of the fresh food section and de-ice with blow dryer. If it does it again then the Styrofoam between frig and freezer must be replaced.

Your problems are exactally the same as mine. I have taken the freezer back panels off and fornd the elements blocked with ice, the upper and lower channels to the fridge are blocked with ice and obviously therefore no0 cold air is going the fridge, I have de-frosted the freezer and put back together and everything works great for 2 weeks when the same thing accurs. My settings for both fridge and freezer are on the lowest possible, but the wife does fill the freezer with too much food! I guess I need an expert in!!

Water leaked from below refridgerator. Drip pan was not full. where woudl water come form and why? Unit is not eve 1 year old. mdel # KSCS 25 FVss

The evaporator coil is in the freezer. When it goes into defrost, that water should go down a drain in the freezer into the drain pan. Open the freezer door and see if there is any ice in the very bottom of the freezer compartment. If so, then the drain may be clogged and will have to be cleared. It is necessary to remove all of the racks and baskets to get to the sheet metal that covers the coil. Remove that panel to get to the evap coil and look below it to find the drain. It may be necessary to use a hair dryer to CAREFULLY melt any ice. Be careful not to melt the plastic liner. When you think you have the drain cleared, check it with a large glass of hot water.
If there is no ice in the bottom of the freezer, take the grill off the bottom of the fridge to see if there are any leaks under the fridge.
Could also be a pin hole leak in the water supply line to the fridge.

RED TEMP WARNING LIGHT ON MOTOR RUNNING

I'm sorry to have to tell you that this sounds like a very expensive fault to fix!
Either your fridge/freezer has degassed (lost the refridgerant gas) through a small leak in the pipe system behind or inside the freezer compartment, OR the compressor (what you called the motor) has started to fail.
Either way, these are very expensive repair jobs. It's possible to replace the compressor within about an hour, but if your model is out of guarantee, there will be around a £50/60 Call-out charge and the compressor will cost between £75 and £150 depending on the model.
Alternatively, if the fridge/freezer has lost gas, the engineer would have to try to find the leak - this could be IMPOSSIBLE if the leak is within the pipework inside the back of the fridge or above/below the freezer compartment.
I'm sorry to say that it's looking like you may have to part with a lot of money - or say goodbye to the fridge/freezer you have!
